Not sure if you ve saw this or not, but I found this on MSN movies:
Quote: | Have you ever heard of the character John Carter? The sci-fi adventure hero has been in development for many years at Paramount Pictures with the studio hoping the first installment, "John Carter: Princess of Mars," will be the beginning of a new franchise. Director Robert Rodriguez was originally developing the project until a dispute with the Director's Guild of America over "Sin City" forced him to resign from the union. That eliminated his ability to make the movie at any of the major studios that have agreements with the DGA. Paramount then felt "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" creator Kevin Conran would be the perfect candidate to bring the material to the screen. Conran had been working for almost a year and had recently created special sequences to show the new management at the studio. Sadly, they must not have liked what they saw because last week the studio announced that Jon Favreau would be taking over. Audiences will most likely remember Favreau more as an actor ("Swingers") than a director ("Made"). The filmmaker's last two movies have been the family films "Elf" (a mega hit) and the upcoming "Zathura." Word is that Paramount wants to position "Carter" as a family movie as well. That's a far cry from the spirit of the original material or where Rodriguez or Conran would have taken it. The studio is desperate for tent-pole films, but is this the way to go? |
