ok, ever since I started playing DoD:S, I had this problem where every 30 sec or so, I would get major choke. I tried rate, cl-update, cl-cmd, lowered resolution, no HDR, etc.... I have an the equivalent of a pentium running at 3Ggz, ATI 9800 pro and 1 gig of RAM so not bad. About 70 fps....

So I tried a final thing.... I shutted down Zonealarm. Worked like a breeze, no choke even at higher resolution, higher settings.

So maybe I have something on my computer that hammer Zonealarm and lag my computer, or ZA is screwing me.

I will investigate that

Unfortunately, I had to get rid of my Zonealarm for just that reason. Even when you thought you turned it off, it still ran in the background.

zonealarm is the biggest POS there is.

it reduced my downloadspeed from 750 to 100mb/s.............
shutting it down was't enough, i really had to uninstall it to fix the problem.

but my routers firewall is doing a great job!

Ditto on everything. There are extensive tests that you can run to verify that your router firewall is doing it's job. The only caviot of not using Zonealarm is un-screened outbound traffic.

However, in my case I created a new partition, installed WinXP, tweaked it strictly for gaming purposes, and solely rely on my router firewall to do it's job.

If you want to test your firewall (hardware or software -wise) go to this link: http://www.dslreports.com/tools

You will find all kinds of useful tools to tweak your broadband connection. The port test will tell you if your firewall is working.

Semper-Fi, carry on.
