Cannot find game server - Steam

My son cannot log into any Steam servers. He can log onto Steam and onto DOD, for instance, which brings up the list of servers. When he tries to log on to any of the servers, it retries three times and ends up with a message "failed to contact game server". I worked with microsoft Tech support to see if it was a firewall problem (SP2), which it isn't. His VAC standing is good, soooo, I'm out of ideas. Please help. Big Bad Wolf

After it fails open up the console and see what error it is giving you. That will make it easier to see what is causing the issue.

Keep trying and if he can not get it to work reinstall steam. I have numerous times to get some other problem fixed. Welcome to the fourms.

Make sure these ports are open:
UDP 1200 (used for friends service)
UDP 27000 to 27015 inclusive
TCP 27020 to 27039 inclusive
