It's not as bad as it sounds...sometimes you get to pings in the 500's and still not experience lag...

that and there are people who learn to play with lag and use it to their advantage. I used to be able to rule in Q3A on a dial-up pinging 600+ and lagging by about 1/2 a sec or so

I learned how to anticipate movements better and to plan shots WAY ahead.

Plus the netcode for DOD is really good and it can handle high pings while still allowing players to be competitive.

My guess is that you just had someone who was used to playing w/ that ping and learned how.

You can't judge someone's "lag" from just their latency. Some people may use screwed up rates to give them an advantage, but the server helps to control them. Usually it is just like what Pollux said, people are just used to playing with consistant high pings...

Yeah read through any of the TPG leagues or CAL leagues as they complain about it all the time. On there end it looks normal and they don't see the lag. So it they see the lag like we do. They see it as playing normal it's just us that see them hoping all over the place.

I played Half life games on dial up for six years, only this past year i havnt. and my brother and i just learned to deal with it, like Pollux said, there are ways aroudn it, and you just learn it. such as shooting ahead of em, changing rates, stuff like that...it just takes getting used to. but i do not believe they are cheating i respect the high pingers...i was one for six years.

They're not hackers but my reason is the same as the rest so I won't post it again. It may seem like high pingers are hackers because you may be killed after you've hid behind a wall, trust me it happens everyday to me. I also was one of those high pingers with a ping of 300-400 while playing TFC on 56k on a server located in Iceland. I wasn't too shabby either if I recall, but enough about me. Oh yeah Bullseye, you're still a cotton headed ninny mugin.

I have found from experience that ping maybe caused by several factors, such as distance from server, daily network traffic and connection speed.Add to the fact that Steam might try to update while you are playing and cause increased bandwidth usage.
Hacking is not always the culprit.I have found the best way to see if someone maybe "Hacking" is to observe to number of headshots from a player. Is that player "NOT" missing.Seems to know where to shot and when. And "Knows" the position of every player in game.
Ping plus the increased headshot count may indicate hacking(not always).
The problem I have high pingers, is when a player is warpiing on screen because he's lagging so badly.

Yeah I get frustrated with that kind of thing, but I usually just accept it and go on #Cussing out

You don't have to post several times in a row, bullseye. Just click the edit button on an existing post and make the changes. It makes the thread a little more organized.
