Here's the deal. I've got a 19' Viewsonic E90f (Black). The image on the screen wavers sometimes and shortly thereafter the screen will lose the signal and shut off the display.
Now, I've checked connections; monitor cable to video card (ATI X800 Pro) seems fine and power is connected into a power adapter (which is plugged into the wall socket) along with my computer power supply of 550 watts, 2.1 speakers, and my wireless keyboard/mouse combo.
I've also managed to figure out that amounts of the color white increase the rate at which this happens, but as to anything more than that, I'm pretty much clueless. _________________ http://www.chronixradio.com |

my first thought is that the monitor isnt getting enough juice, but it seems you arent pulling too much power from the wall to matter, so check the power strip. maybe it is an old one, or a cheap $5 one (of which i have many hooked up). try plugging the monitor directly into the wall. you dont have it plugged into a battery backup do you? that would cause issues for sure.
now if thats not it, and it probably isnt, but get the easy stuff outta the way first, the tube could just be going bad. try lowering the resolution and see if that helps - not as much strain on the monitor hopefully. |

Yeah, sounds like it not getting enough power. Definately plug it into the wall and go from there. Also, try bringing the refresh rate lower. That may help too. Also, does your monitor have enough air flow? |

clear the top of and then smack it with your palm real hard.
Did it flicker or change
Sometimes it will help a bad connection problem
do you need a cast?
we had a monitor that did something like what you are describing. It still is going with a occasional swat
In the Marines we called it the drop test _________________ Only in America......do they have drive-up ATM machines with Braille lettering.

Thanks all. That's what I was starting to think it was. Only reason I haven't plugged it into the wall yet is because it's such a hassle to get it unplugged and run the cord around various objects. That and I'm pretty sure the way the power is wired here isn't all that great to begin with.
But I'll give it a try and let everyone know how it goes. _________________ http://www.chronixradio.com |

Yep, definately sounds like a power issue within the monitor itself. Very few monitors will power down (go completely off) via a signal command from the PC. Do you hear a 'crinkle' sound when the monitor goes off? Can you recycle the power button on the monitor and will it come back on again?
As Jfet said, bypass the power strip and plug direct into wall outlet.
The computer supply should have nothing to do with you monitor prob, but could affect the video card. 550w should be plenty to run the pc and everything in it.
Lastly, you might borrow another monitor and see if it does the same thing. If so, PC. If not, then suspect your monitor itself. _________________ "I Cant HEAR YOU"

Well, right now I'm posting using that monitor, and after plugging it directly into the wall and turning it on, it pulled the "shut-off" stunt initially. After toggling it off and on again, I got it to work and so far the only problem that happened is it wavered once. So far so good.
Thanks all. _________________ http://www.chronixradio.com |

I don't think it's a bad power cable. I think if it was the power cable the power light wouldn't remain on when the display died.
Well, if nothing else, the monitor's still under the 3 year limited warranty. I just hope the problem's covered by it. _________________ http://www.chronixradio.com |

if the power cables r the same, use your comps power cable and try that instead of the one for your monaitor. _________________ R.I.P. Blue |

Aside from when the problem reoccurred initially, I haven't had any problems yet, but then again, I haven't been around to watch it the whole time. I think the problem's been solved, but if anything else comes up about it, I'll be back to rend everyone's monitor knowledge from their brains again. _________________ http://www.chronixradio.com |

Pffffbbbbbpppp. Got worse. Doesn't even display now. Just has sounds like it is going to turn on, but then quickly makes a noise as though it's turning off. Does this repeatedly now. Can't even check if the problem is just the cord until I go back home in a week. P00p.
Maybe I'll give Viewsonic's support a ring and just hit their 48 Express Exchange for a temporary replacement until I can. _________________ http://www.chronixradio.com |
