(Windows XP with partioned 9 Tried installing standard modem, doesn't recognize it... What am I doing wrong? Don't laugh too much at me

First mistake was going with AOL, but that's besides the point.

How old is the said modem? Is there a manuel for it? Do you need to configure the network connections and add a dialup connection. Do you need to release something else from the hardware profiles and restart for it to auto-detect the modem. Have you tested the modem recently on another computer to see if it is even operational and doesn't have some sort of issue itsself.

Also Windows XP Service Pack 2 was just released, you might want to get that and try again. Now if I could only help you figure out what's wrong with your avatar we'd be set.

Modem is not auto-detecting, when checking in hardware device manager says there are no modems. That is main problem, tried installing standard 56 k modem from that, but it isn't registering.

EDIT: Well, we give up (basically she driving me nuts cuz really comp illiterate and making me mad so I putting her on back computer that works )

If you would still like any help. I'd ask for information first. Modem make/model, and is it internal/external?

Hey, I didn't pick it, I only got there a month ago. I am trying to convert them, but no go so far, they are used to the idiocy of aol.... You try converting 3 50+ women.... I already done a lot there to improve what they have, but.... one can only improve aol so much. they also have such a low amount of ram.... is pathetic

ALSO, the comps were custom built 2-3 yrs ago, no cds for modems or anything. Don't know why not, but they said this is what we have, and only cd with anything modem related is only software-to give you idea how old, it has aol 3.0
