OK guys I know I have been posting abit about this but now its go time and I would like some advice from you hands on "gods"...My goal here is to eventually get a bfv server and no I`m no master at it its just something different and hopefully one day be added to the ville list.My way of giving a little back(for as long as i can afford it ) .But I was thinking that I should get a tfc server to get my feet wet because I know half life commands better than bf. If I did this I would just want to run sniper maps and this way I would get the feel for running a server. And with it being hl server if I run into probs you might pass on some of your wisdom...
the servers I have been getting info on are:
vsk(not getting any response from them though in their forums or emails that i have sent??)
recongamer(they replied right away)
game vault
and
serverxtreme
any help would be great and I don`t mean to be a pain in the ass _________________

Although Recongamer has great service and is affordable they are on the east coast. Virginia to be exact
I would love to help lead you in the direction you need to be going as far as server leasing but the only one I am familiar with is RG. My ping was usually around 110 or so here in Vegas.
Once you do get something going then I can help get things set up. I am no genious but I do know a few things about getting them set up. The real gurus are blown65, SilverOne, and Danno. If there is a problem then they can fix it. I don't know how many times they bailed me out of problems. _________________

I guess that I'll always prefer middle america servers, as east coasties and west coasties both get similar pings from them (and I get a damn low one as I'm in Michigan). God bless the ville's chicago based game servers. |

ANOTHER QUESTION are there any good sites with info on how to run a server??every place i go they say if u have never run a server u should learn first because they are easy to screwup and could cost money if u don`t know what your doing.so just like the real world how does one get experience without getting their feet wet????man all i want to do is run a server not run for president .going to some of these guys forums well christ i might as well be asking how they get the caramel inside the caramel bar
oh ya steam has that dedicated server thang ,if i do that will that work can i get my feet wet that way with commands etc.also will that suck my bandwith so bad that my isp will be knocking on the door looking for big bucks????? _________________

What exactly are you wanting to run right now? The HLDS package is the way I went, not sure what the other server ops did, but I didnt mess with the steam BS installer. Just download the HLDS steam package, then run the updater. Actually you could cheat and get the updater, then tell it to update lets say dod and it will download all the files you need I believe. I think Jfet did that. |

thanks blown, looking to run either bfv or c.o.d but i think i will just set a tfc one up at home right now for a week and see if i can keep it going.
what about a dedicated server like shaft mentioned how is this setup for the $$$$
AMD XP 2000
512 DDR Ram
6 IP Addresses
40 Gig Hard Drive10 Mb Full Duplex Windows Server 2003
1.5 Mb Bandwidth (95th)
$150.00 A Month
then i can run both with room to spare
if i run one at home how much bandwidth will i suck for a week lets say. more than my isp would like me to use??? does this make sense
ok ok i`m going to google right now to search sorry guys _________________

If you want a kickass dedicated server go here...
http://www.servermatrix.com
The Ville uses the dual 2.4 server that runs the website, Avantiville, TV2, TV5, TV12 and The Ville Radio. _________________
