Im shocked that no one has made a post regarding the fact that today is the 60th anniversary of D-Day

! Thats right, 60 years ago today the boys landed on the beaches in Normandy. And the AirBourne before them to boot! They fought and died and no one here even posted about it

... Its not exactly a big deal, but when you begin to think about how they secured freedom for future generations, its a fairly big deal!

It was by their sweat, torment and blood that Facist europe was finally overthrown. Just consider the number of British, American and Canadian sacrifices that were made on this day 60 years ago. Consider what they saw on the beaches and in the towns, fields and villages in France and farther into Europe. War may be considered a brutal, horrid and evil beast that swallows men whole, but at points it is necessary. And at points you are required to fight for your country. How many of you would get up off your couch, put down your remote and go and fight a war in a place you have never been to? Or possibly never even heard of? Not many, I would think.

Never forget those who made sacrifices so that you can live in the world you do today!!!!

i would, thats why i signed up for selective services

. no really... if there was a conflict as large as world war 2, where our country and the way we lived were at stake and under attack, i would be the first one to fall in line.

Yep but you gotta respect us Canadians, after all we were the only country with out a conscript force - 100% volunteer - and the only country who captured and held their objective on the beaches.

After watching the footage from d-day this year and playing the game dod with the machineguns. I sure am glad it happened then and not now. Out of all the machine gunners on the german side, only two survived the day.
The guys that climbed the ropes had gernades thrown down on them and their ropes cut. The mic boat drivers were getting shot and mortor rounds were going off in the boats, those tanks that had the inflatable curtain around them were swamped by the rough seas and sank, the town of Caen was leveled except for the hospital and church, The beaches became crowded with the uncoming supplies, it must of been a madhouse!

All in one day. I see why they call it "the longest day".

yeah i spent most of the day yesterday watching the ww2 invasion with my dad and grandpa. (ps i bought my dad a box set of dvds on ww2...i think he liked them)

yeah i wish u guys didnt lose 10,000 guys trying to capture those dikes in Amsterdam, hmm better look that up been awhile since i read that book but all i know is that the Canadians were in charge of walking through 3 feet of water attacking MGs on a Dike sometime around Market Garden, sucky job huh, MONTY SUCKS BALLS

I believe that your talking about Dieppe, and by the way Dieppe was the whole reason why D-Day worked

. The point behind Dieppe was to test invasion tactics and the german fortifications along the coast of France. With out the sacrifice of 1000 canadians - not 10000 - D-Day wouldnt have been a success

Wait just a second....america's forces are 100% volunteer too.....we "have" a draft, but it hasn't been used in years, all our current troops are 100% volunteer.
