low fps lots of choke/lag

hi..well heres the problem..recently i've been getting alot of choke & lagg..my fps has dropped also..in server 1 i get 80 choke and 30-60 fps..i've tried messing around with cl_updaterate cl_cmdrate rate..now i dont know what to do..how & what could i do so that i wont be so laggy in the servers?

I know I have to run cl_updaterate 12 and I still will get up 10% choke but my fps has always been in the 20's.

Now maybe I will be able to kill you hehe.

its not necessarily the kind of tip you're probably looking for...but if this is recent(before 1.2 or since?) have you tried running a trace to make sure its not somewhere between you and the server?

also, check and make sure Steam didnt reset your internet connection speed to 28.8 or something with the last update.

The new update causes some FPS problems sometimes.

Post some stuff so we can help. Post your internet connection, rate, cl_rate, cl_updaterate, and cl_cmdrate.

I started getting more choke in tv1 and tv4 during the last part of summer. I only get it from home. Odds are that your isp is under a heavy traffic load, or your connection is taking a bad hop at an overloaded router somewhere.

As for your fps, I would recommend shutting down all unnecesary(sp?) programs, and checking what chipset and graphics drivers that you are using.
