heya folx just thought I'd inform you all that I will be getting my eyes fixed on Friday the 9th so that I will never have to depend on glasses or contacts again! WEWT!
I am seriously looking foward to ridding myslf of this physical handicap that I have had since I was 7 years old. I thank the great advances in technology for allowing me the opportunity to spend 3600 smackaroos to never have to buy contact solution, contacts, or glasses again.
apparently the procedure takes about 2 minutes to complete. Thats both eyes BTW and then I have to sit around the doctor's office for a couple of hours so that they can make sure everything is all good. I should be able to see 100 percent by Monday of the following week.
I have heard alot of good things about this procedure from people who have had it done and it only contributes to my excitement. I'll be sure to post an update for yall on saturday, since the doc says I'll be able to see well enough by then, to participate in the forums.
I may be stuck in front of this computer for a few days anyway, due to the recommendation that I should not do anything that would POKE my eyes out. Meaning no outdoor sporting activities, no hockey playing, no bb gun target practice and above all no rubbing of the eyes when I get sad...
anyway, wish meh luck and I'd sure love to hear any experiences you all might have with lasik procedures.

A guy I work with had it done about 2 years ago. I think his biggest issue was that his eyes would water a lot(afterward). He is a programmer and stares at the computer all day, so I give him a couple years and his eyes will just weaken and he'll need glasses for seeing far away.
Anywho, I may be doing something similar if my insurance ever covers it.(not likely)

I have had friends that did it and the only that I had heard was that you lose depth perception . I was thinking about having it done till I heard that. It was a long time ago that I heard that though. It may have been just a bad experience or something I'm sure they have figured out how to avoid by now.
I wish the best of luck to ya sir. I'm sure everything will go without a hitch. _________________

I'm before you.
I'm getting mine done tomorrow. Well at least one eye is getting done, I had the other done via PRK which I would NEVER recommend. It sucked big time. I'll try and post maybe thursday to let ya know how I'm feeling about the procedure. BTW, what is your eye sight now, or I should ask, what is your correction in contacts. Mine was or is 4.5 power or about 20/450 eye sight. The one done via prk brought me from 20/400 to 20/40 but the recover sucked.
As far as depth perception, when I had one contact in and none in the other eye relying on the 20/40 vision my depth perception was just fine. I'd suspect it will be the same from this procedure also since they are similar in most ways except on how they handle the outer part of the eye. LASIK is supposed to be much more accurate also since I had prk. But one thing I did find out that you may want to ask is, that they like to make one eye a little near sighted so you can read in the later years without reading glasses. Kinda the reason I didnt worry about the 20/40 in my corrected eye. Just hoping for 20/20 in the other. |

well my correction for my contacts is -9.5 nearly half way to blind. From what the doctor said, the most discomfort I will have is right after the surgery. He said I would feel like I am wearing old contacts and my eyes would feel dry. As far as depth perception goes, he indicated that this would not be an issue, however, night vision would be the same as it is for me now. Meaning, there will be glare when I look at lights. other than that it should be good. So far teh doc thinks that I don't need any adjustment to my reading vision(even if it was possible to fix) so I will cross that bridge when I get older...
Good luck to you brother blown. _________________ JohnCarter, Warlord of Mars

My sister just got it done a couple months ago. She had terrible vision before the procedure couldn't see anything without her glasses. Now.. she has perfect vision 20/20 in both eyes and they told her it can even get better.
Just be sure to keep up with the various eye drops they give you. They will also give you some pain killers, but she didnt even have to use them. She really had very little pain, just some soreness. Her eyes were bloodshot and had some blood patches for awile but that is common.
She is very happy with everything.. and so is our family. It was and is amazing. |

Well let me know for sure, both Blown and JCOM, how everything goes. This is something I've been considering for years but haven't done due to what I have been told. It sounds to me like they have improved on it a ton. Now I just need to dig up some money _________________
