My Video Card Is Dying A Slow Death. I've Given Up On Blaming Steam Or DOD Everytime It Crashes Into A Wild Jumble On My Desktop. It Alas Now Is Doing That On Other Games.
Your Recommendations, ATI Or Nvidia
Your Thoughts Would Be Greatly Appreciated... _________________ ********* *********

This might have been placed in the FAQ section
However since I am here. . . .
I purchased a 9800pro by ATI because ATI is the card of choice for HL2, whenever that comes out . So far I am really impressed with the card. In DOD I was running from 30 - 5 fps depending on the environment with my old card. With the new one I am capable of running at a constant 99 fps. I have my res at 1280-1024 and everything else maxed. It hasn't flinched yet
Would I recommend it?? Hell ya!! _________________

I would recommend going for an ATI Radeon 9800 or prehaps a 9600pro, if you can afford it. However, I recently put a Nividia XFX 5200 128 MB DDR videocard into my computer and I havent had any real video problems since. Some people have complained about the card's fan making a lot of noise, however, I have yuet to find that problem even after about three weeks of having the card.
Id recommend either an XFX or a 9600/9800 depending on your price range.
PS, go for the ATI, us canucks need more money! |

This all depends. If you want AA (anti-Aslining or somethin like that) Then you will want to go with ATI, This makes the video quality very very good but wont like run smooth as with it off (not much diff with hl unless u play ns reg game cuz then u will die lol i did) This is very nice to have AA because it makes the picture look all rounded off and everything.
Now if you dont care about how many lines are on screen and can deal with an eye strain, then go with Nvidia. These cards run very smooth and fast for max fames, but the quality isnt really that great.
If you go with a ATI get a pro or XT series.
If you go with a Nvidia get the FX series.
These are the best in there class. _________________

My XFX has Anti-Aialasing (sp?) too... But as blown said, if you have the $ and your system supports it go for an 9800. |
