I am setting up a Nuke site and phpBB forum for an organization, and I was just wondering what kind of Hosting package I should get. The community won't be as large as TheVille, but I thought it would be interesting to know exactly what kind of stats TheVille is at.
When I look at different hosting packages they basically charge you for the amount of disk space and data transfer. How much would I need to run a community about the size of The Ville?
Also, if anyone knows any good hosting packages out there let me know. I am curious to know what the hosting is going to cost. _________________ Amen!

I run a site with Nuke at www.feztek.com. I got 50MB with a DB, subdomains, emails, etc. for $60 a year.
I know the ville is on a web server with way more than they need. It's got a few game servers on it, too. _________________

Is that TOSW you are referring to? Looks like a nice hosting package. I was just wondering how much database space and bandwith I would need. Is there a guide to this somewhere that tells you how much you will need based on the number of hits you are expecting? _________________ Amen!

Yes TOSW. I don't know if there is a guide, but I know these hosting packages have unlimited databases and bandwidth. _________________

Ok, I am planning on starting out with about 50 members and possibly growing to 500 members in the next few years. The site will probably get between 50 -200 unique hits a day. About how much bandwith and disk space will I need?
The packages I am looking at range from 25 to 500 MB of space, and 5 to 25 GB of bandwith. Which side of that spectrum should I lean on? The cheaper the better, but I don't want to be restricted by bandwith and disk space limitations in the future. For the amount of usage I described above, how much disk space and bandwith should I go with? _________________ Amen!

Monk, only one answer, www.1and1.com.
Free! 500 meg, lotsa bandwidth too. Free for 3 years.
Register your domain elsewhere and if you grow out of it then move it.

Thanks JD. I think I'll sign up right now.
While we are on the topic though, I would love to know how the disk space and bandwith equate to number of users, posts, or hits so that I can have an idea what they mean. _________________ Amen!

It depends. Are your members going to be just posting stuff, or will they have the ablility to upload stuff too?
What's this site going to be for? _________________

I agree, it depends.
If you look at the Ville forums I believe there are about 175000 posts....give or take, I have not looked at the numbers lately.
But I believe the database is only around 150 meg.

Ahh Thanks JD. That's what I wanted to know. So I guess there is no way I would need 500 MB of disk space _________________ Amen!

Well, until I get my programming skills down, I am quite happy using Nuke. It is better than what my site would look like without it. Thanks for the hosting link. That is the best deal I have seen yet. I am still giving 1and1 a shot, but I am having a little bit of difficulty with it. We will see how it works out. _________________ Amen!
