Hey guys, long time no see-notebook question

Whybkuul

I had a question about mobile technology processors. I notice that most start at a clock speed at about 1.2 ghz. Are they going to actually perform as a regular 1.2 ghz processor or will they be comprable to like 3ghz or whatever?

I believe they are the same as the desktop processor as far as speed goes. A 1.2 is a 1.2. The new amd 64 chip is the only chip that I know of where a 2.2 chip is as fast as a 3.2 chip. It's a 64 bit processor instead of the regular 32 bit.

Also I don't think that 1.2 is the fastest they are right now. I have a friend irl that has a notebook that has a chip somewhere in the 2.4 region if memory serves me right.

i believe the fastest mobile proccesor is a 3.06Ghz.

P4 mobiles are in the 2.6 to 3.2 range I believe. Intel Centrinos are running around 1.2 to 1.6. From some of the things I've read the Centrino isn't that much slower than the P4. Someone please feel free to expand on that.

Btw, to clarify, I meant the centrino mobile technology. I ordered a dell notebook with a 1.5ghz Pentium-M processor, and it says it incorporates centrino technology.

Pentium M (used in centrino machines) outperform mobile p4s clocked much higher. Pentium M's are basically P3's on steroids, and it is well known that the p3 was a much more efficient architecture than that of the p4.

I'm in with the rest, the Centrino technologies give you great performance at lower clock speeds, so your 1.4 - 1.6 will be like a P4 2.2 - 2-6.

The best part of Centrino is that is alot less power hungry than the previous CPUs and Chipsets so you will run cooler and get alot more battery life in a Centrino notebook.
