Jcom, if that picture was taken anywhere near your home in Alabama I am pretty sure someone has already claimed the free cat. I can just picture someone with a hick drawl walking thru the door at home saying "Honeybun, looks what I gots for the stew pot! Real meat!" He would sound like that one country hick from the Simpsons.

Actually last week I had this very opportunity, though it wasn't roadkill, per
se. The cat wasn't run over, it had just dropped dead in the middle of
the road. Exposure, I assume. It was a really pretty cat too, had grey
fur with black stripes almost like a miniature white tiger.

I moved it out of the road. I didn't know what else to do, I really
didn't want to be seen putting a dead cat into a walmart bag and
driving home. Who's gonna believe 'I just want to bury it properly,
man??'

thats just plain sick . Who could do that to the poor cat's corpse? Like... Give it some kind of respect. Sure its not a person but it still shouldnt be treated that way.

Would you care if someone put a sign next to a dead spider that said, "Free arachnid"? The cat wasn't mistreated in any way or form. Sign or no sign, the cat is just going to lay there until the street cleaners get rid of it. Adding a sign such as portrayed, however, adds a touch of comedy to the scene.

I don't find the humor funny in that instance. The difference between cats, dogs and spider's are that the former are accepted as household pets. Therefore a more human attachment to cats, dogs and even horses to spiders. If I saw a free dog sign witha dead dog, I'd prolly delete the topic.

*shuts eyes*

It's only an edited photo, it's only an edited photo, it's only an edited photo, it's only an edited photo, it's only an edited photo, it's only an edited photo, it's only an edited photo, it's only an edited photo, it's only an edited photo, it's only an edited photo, it's only an edited photo, it's only an edited photo, it's only an edited photo, it's only an edited photo....

and anyway, i bet the cat would've loved to cheer somebody up from beyond the grave, even if it were just some forum-ites who have low tolerance (which is both good and bad).

So what you're saying is. . .if the spider had a personality, it would cease to be ok to make fun of a dead one? That would have to be one charming (expletive deleted) spider. It would have to be ten times more charming than that Charlotte on Charlotte's Web.

Treating one creature different from another based solely on your ability to enjoy/domesticate it, is quite unfair to the skunks. I demand skunk respect! Treating one creature different from another based solely on it's intelligence, is quite unfair to the armadillos. I demand armadillo respect!
