Here's my playoff predictions and why
ALDS
NY Yankees vs Minnesota
Yankees sweep in three. Minnesota is cursed against them. Any other team could easily upset the Yankees in the ALDS. The White Sox would have given the Yanks a better run for their money and possibly beat them.
Boston vs Oakland
I think Boston will win in four. Pedro will win game 1 and whoever will lose game 2. Boston sweeps the two games at Fenway. I'll give credit to the A's for winning the west. The trends say that Oakland losing in round one is as solid as Atlanta not winning the World Series.
NLDS
Florida vs San Francisco
Florida will upset the Giants in game 1. San Fran will get serious and put the hurtin' on Florida the next three games.
Chicago vs Atlanta
The Cubs are a matchup nightmare for Atlanta. This is the type of team that Atlanta could get upset by. Atlanta owns Houston. They have a much tougher time with the Cubs. Prior, Wood, Zambrano and Clement vs. Maddux, Ortiz, Hampton and washed up Shane Reynolds. If the Cubs bats get hot, look out. The Cubs will pull off the upset of Atlanta and win in five. They will win game five on the road where Turner Field will have at least 25% Cub fans.
ALCS
Boston vs NY Yankees
Well this is the matchup that all the BoSox and Yankee fans want. To me Boston is the better team. However, it is the Yankees and it is the curse of the Bambino. It's Buckner going five hole in '86. However, the Bronx Bombers have had two disasters in the last two years themselves (see Luis Gonzalez and the Rally Monkey.) Is this year different? I say yes it is. Fate has to smile on the BoSox nation just one time and I feel this year is different. I feel that the Yankees pitching is old and hanging on by a thread. You can talk about the bad BoSox bullpen all you want. GM Theo Epstein went out and kept making moves for relief pitching. You think NY feels safe with the way Gabe White, Chris Hammond and Jeff Nelson have been pitching? The only situation that has the Yankees advancing would be two blown saves by Byung Hung Kim. Otherwise Boston gets home field as they take out the bombers in six. Somewhere Dahak passes out when Boston gets by New York.
ALCS MVP: Trot Nixon who will pound Yankee pitching
NLCS
Chicago vs San Fran
The Cubs will also fall in six (maybe seven.) This series will be much more exciting and closer in score than an Atlanta/SF NLCS. The Cubs aren't ready this year. The Cubs will break the trend next year of never having two winning seasons in a row. The Cubs will go on to be the dominant NL team for the next five years if they keep their starting pitching intact. That is a White Sox fan saying that...again.
NLCS MVP: Jason Schmidt
World Series
San Francisco vs Boston
I would be pulling for Boston although SF winning won't pain me either. I'd predict Boston, but I refuse to put the curse on them by predicting them. I'm going to predict SF wins a painful game seven in Fenway when Marquis Grissom gets the game winning hit off of Byung Hung Kim in the 10th inning. It will be remembered as a great fall classic as Barry Bonds gets his long awaited World Series ring.
World Series MVP: Barry Bonds hits .380 with 3 HR's and 11 walks in the series.
Anyone got any other predictions?

Chicago
Chicago Bears - 1985 Super Bowl
Chicago Bulls - 1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998 NBA Champs
Chicago Fire - 1998 MLS Champions
Chicago Wolves (IHL, AHL) 1998, 2002 (IHL Turner Cup) and 2002 (AHL Calder Cup)
New York
NY Rangers - 1994 Stanley Cup
NY Giants - 1986, 1990 Super Bowl Champs
NY Mets - 1986 W.S. Champs
NY Yankees - 1995, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000 W.S. Champs
Chicago 11 championships
NY 9 championships
Get off the Lakers and Yankees bandwagon.
I might cheer for the Cubs ahead of the Yankees at this point. _________________ Yes, I'm still around

<=== Has always been on the lakers bandwagon, do I still have to get off?
Man, had I known there would be this much love flying around over the cubbies I might have tried to watch a game or two on the tv. I've got a friend who is a longtime cubbies fan, so I'll root for them just so I can hear him stop crying in his beer about it being "their turn". _________________ Under construction!!! |

Whoa!
Frag, you doing any odds work at the Sports Book to pass the time?
Cubs vs Red Sox would be the all-time sentimental favorite for those long suffering fans.
However, my $$ says G'Nats vs Yanks. _________________ Your suffering will be legendary, even in hell.

I just applied at the Plaza Hotel and Casino to work in the sportsbook. I don't want to do any table gaming or anything like that. I can't think of a better job. It's something that's legal here where back in Chicago it's all underground.
For me the playoffs are the easiest time to predict winners and losers. No team takes any plays off in any sports playoff. Trends are pretty easily found on the net. ESPN and Fox Sports also let you know who did what during the season. The only matchup that I'm having difficulty with is the Cubs/Braves. I can see either team winning. I'm also gonna have a hard time cheering for the morons in Atlanta. They have got the biggest fan base of fair weather fans. At least the Cubs fans are loyal even if they mostly don't know the starting lineup besides Sammy Sosa. The other three series' has a clear favorite (NY, Boston, and SF) and winner from what I see.
In the NFL I had the Packers, Texans, KC/Balt under, Panthers, and unforunately the Arizona Cardinals on a five team parlay. 4 out of 5 is a loser. On the 3 teamer card I had the Cards, Panthers, and Packers. It's already toast due to Arizona losing 37-13 to a very average St. Louis team. Football gets easier to predict after the first month too.
for all you people in football office pools or confidence pools
- Philadelphia will recover with it's win today
- Arizona flat out sucks, but can have an occasional win at home
- Chicago is gonna get killed by Green Bay tomorrow night, and will suck all year
- Pittsburgh is a team that isn't as good as people think
- Tennessee is better than people think
- Go against San Fran all year unless at home against a very bad team like Chicago or Arizona. Dennis Erickson is an awful NFL coach who's never been to the playoffs. The niners are 1-3 and will struggle to hit 8-8.
- I avoid teams that will half-ass it one week and then look like Super Bowl contenders the next week. Cincinnati only feels like playing when they are 1-7 to save someone's job or they play against Cleveland.
- Baltimore is a great home team and a very weak road team.
- I'd stay away from Oakland either way
