Ok, Im looking for the best ATI card to buy for my computer. Niveda is out - Im trying to make it so I can run HL2 with minimal lag (the lag I will get will be from my processor). There are several options that I can get for a card, however, some are more expensive then others. I would love to get a 9600 pro however I cant afford it - I have to purchase/pay for installation (my mom wont let me do it  ) myself without her contributing. Therefore, I am looking at other options other than 9600 pro. 9600 is jut about $30 below pro so maybe Ill go for that. However, what video card would be best to run games with? Since I am developing a HL2 MOD it will be very important that I can actually test the game without alot of lag or any major errors.
In my area I can get:
ATI 7200 64 MB DDR,
ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon 9000 Pro 64MB DDR,
ATI Radeon 9000 64MB,
ATI Radeon 9200 128MB AGP Video Card,
ATI Radeon 9600 128MB Video Card,
ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 128MB Video Card.
Which would be best and the most economic?

| There still might be some 9500Pro's out there for a good price. Very close in performance to the 9600 Pro. |

Actually the 9500pro is faster than the 9600pro in most benchmarks. The 9500 is built from the same pcb and parts as the 9700 series. If you get a 9500 non pro you could use some hacked drivers by Omega that will open the remaining texel pipelines (9700 has 8, the 9500 has 4) and you will be the proud owner of a 9700  !

I cant find a 9500 anywhere around here though. Ill check some shifty stores in toronto this weekend and maybe Ill find something there.

Thats what I thought, but didnt wanna say it. 
9500Pro is also a DX9 card, along with the non pro I believe. |

i would rule out the 64 meg`s and make your selection from the 128`s...hell drive to markham and get one from the source

Tater whats your price range for a card?
I picked up a 9600pro from NCIX with a pricematch for about $210 which is a very good price on the card. Let me know what your looking to spend and I can try to dig you up some deals.

Im willing to spend up to about $400 (without tax) on a card. Id probably go for a 9600 Pro - most likely from FutureShop - theirs is $279 I believe. If you know of any good stores in the GTA (greater toronto area) then Id love to hear of them.

Sir, check www.bbf.ca for prices on hardware here in Canada, then check www.redflagdeals.com, go to the forums and do some searches for where peeps have gotten the deals on the ATI. As I said I bought mine for $210 from NCIX.Com after a pricematch. You can also try Tigerdirect.ca and a few other places but if you wish to buy in person and not online then I dont know the GTA and cant make recommendations but if you post at RFD they will be glad to help.

My aunt found a store in Toronto with a 9600 Pro at a $210 price tag. She asked them to put one aside for me - Ill be going out there in about two weeks from now to pick it up  .

Wow, thanks simple. Thats better then the store in toronto. I gotta figure out if its canadian or american though. Do you know which one it is? Or am I missing the obvious again?
