Really its more of a comment and a question but anyway, i was playing on the Ville I DOD server and it was at a max of 22 people. My problem is that there was super lag. At first i thought it was some spikes in the server but it just kept happening. I was pinging in at around 200+ where normally on the other DOD server i ping in about low 100's and the entire DOD experience was ruined. I think 22 people on a DOD server is a bit much not just for lag issues, but as well as team work issues. It is almost impossible to get 11 people to work as some sort of unit also it was more running and gunning were as the other DOD server requires more tactical base movements(IMHO). So anyway i would like to maybe perhaps request to Danno or whomever decieds the actions on the VILLE I that perhaps maybe decrease the number people in the server to 18. Perhaps there is something that i don't get or perhaps there is a reason for it being 22 and if there is please tell me. Oh well just wanted to give my opinion on the matter.

I have been on plenty of times (every night!) and I have yet to see a problem with lag when the server is full...it is possible that lag will creep up on occasion (this server is run from my place of employment and every once in a while the bandwith is needed for actual BUSINESS) but the lag will usually abate after a few minutes. The only time I have seen lag become an issue is when both reserved slots are full...and even then it is still tollerable.

Sometimes it can be the connection to the server. Maybe there is a bad hop or strange route along the way from your house to tv1. For instance... I ping alot lower on tv1 than tv4 and tv1 is like 20 miles farther and tv4 is the server I actually take care of. But.. for some reason I ping much better on tv1. It's been this way since Danno, Merf and I brought up the 2 servers. Makes a big difference. Your problem is only ping? Or is it framerate drops due to the higher amount of players in areas?

On tv1 Danno found a sweet spot with 22 players max. I'll try to explain.

One is lag issues. We can actually put the server with a higher max. But after many tests 22 or 22 with 2 reserves is the highest Danno and MErf can go without pings starting to rise due to traffic and stress.

If we put the max lower we open up another problem. Retaining players. The higher the player max the longer the server can stay full. ITs the main problem with tv4 right now. For instance, on tv1 a map is running and 5 people leave around the same time or after a map.. that is 18 players which is still good for a map and people checking their server list are more likely to join. Also.. the people in game won't get bored and leave.

Compare above to tv4. Where the max is 16. A few players leave.. It can slowly empty out the server. And.. people checking their server list are less likely to join since they see 10, 11 or less people on tv4.

Its amazing what 6 extra total players and 3 more on each team does for a server. But its the truth and the difference between tv1 and 4. Also the only reason tv4 is not the same for players is due to the bandwidth available to it. Which is going to change at some point in the future.

Part of what he is talking about, Bobins mentioned in another thread.

I have a great ping for most maps...Kalt, Donner, others...But a select few, like Avalanche, I get wicked lag if I try and leave respawn...

I'm talking like 3000+ latency.

Any suggestions on cause/solution, would be greatly appreciated.

And I wonder why this problem exists, when TFC never had the problem.
