This is a "rant, and hopefully something will be done about it" post. It's extremely annoying when people are in spectator mode on TV1, and they are taking up a spot. Today, there was a person on TV1 (SLAYER, Screenshot here, [wow, my score is 1337]) who was in spectator mode for a good 3+ hours. When I was on, I asked Rata-Tat-Tat if he would kick the person multiple times, but nothing was done. This has probably happened at least once every day since I started playing. If you are an admin, could you please pay a little more attention to how long people have been specing for? I know it's also hard to pay attention to messages when you're playing, but I typed it to Rata-Tat-Tat at least 10 times, and to not see that makes me wonder.

Also, why do caps count for nothing in stat points?

From what I understand the spectator issue is nothing but a display error on the scoreboard.

Indeed SLAYER was in spec. I kicked him 10 minutes or so after I came on and the map changed and he was remaining in spec.

I have to agree with Darkath's comment. If your not going to play but rather sit ideal for extended periods cause you don't like a map or whatever you are taking up someone elses slot that wants to play. The only fesible reason I can think of for you to do this is so YOU don't loose your slot and that's just not right, play or give up your spot.

Whenever I see this you can expect to be removed by myself. It should be noted that I've done this numerous times and instantly the spot is filled.
There must be many players that just can't get on but for some there is a solution to this problem: http://www.theville.org/join.php

I run the same policy, play or leave. I will give people a few minutes in case they have to take a bathroom break or something. After about 5 minutes if nothing is happening then it's time to give up your spot. Keep in mind though that it could be an admin at times. I go in under alias quite a bit and will sit in spec to make sure everything is running smoothly. There is always an admin watching, tee hee hee.

That is true. I myself tend not to sit and idle in spec because. . .well.. it's boring! But sometimes it has to be done.

What I don't get, is how you could stay in spec for three hours? Just log on and then go drop some wolf bait? I mean, even if you were an admin, 3 HOURS! What in the world could you be doing in spec for three hours? Maybe DOD is like porno to him and he was. . . ...no never mind.

I would have definitely booted the guy. Not to be mean or anything, but to free up the slot.

I never sit in spec for 3 hours, that is rediculous. I will sit in there for about 15 minutes max. When a map comes up that I don't like then I will sit in spec to make sure nobody is acting up. After a few minutes or so I leave.

In Rata's defense though, when you get going in game sometimes it's tough to see the chat messages. It has happened to me many times. He may have been really into the game and not paying attention to the chat.

I don't doubt for one minute that is what happened BRN.

If you can't get his attention by typing, go find his butt! Shoot him in the caboose! That will get his attention.

If an admin doesn't even respond to your request (especially to a reg) 99.9% of the time, it's because they simply didn't see the text come up.

If i see spectators that have been specateing for a while i do kick them to free up a few slots.

Although I have noticed that often you will see more specatators listed than are actually there, only reason i know that is because when i try to kick them it just says they dont exist. I think those are the ones listed in black.

If it restricts admins from specing then I would say no Danno. If there is a way of disabling it for admins then I'm all for it.

Ditto for sure, admins need unrestricted spec access. I use it a fair amount.

I checked the code and admins have immunity, we can stay as long as we want. I wouldnt have anything less

Basically it will check every 60 seconds, and check 5 times to see if you are dead or inactive. So you have 5 minutes to move or get kicked. It will warn you after 3 minutes to move.

5 Minutes enough time?
