You may want to look at this thread for some tips. I am here in the USA with a cable modem and had problem. Reading thru this and changing some settings helped out a lot. http://www.theville.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11934

DoD destroys your fps. Unless you have a very good computer, or just get lucky, your fps are going to be low. I'm on cable, not too far away from the server, have tweaked my settings to hell and back, and I have a EXTREMELY nice video card which I've tweaked as well. With all of this, I get 10-15 fps in fire fights, while in TFC my lowest fps would be 60 and my norml would be 90-100.

DoD is very laggy without all those tweaks. I've done all the tweaks I can find and I still run at about 9 fps just in a deserted area of the map, in traffic, I'm at about 2 fps.

I'm on cable with a laptop and I usually get around 30 fps. Then Donner rolls around and it drops to around 10. As long as I stay away from the tank I can play with it. I'm hoping when my Alienware arrives that will be resolved.

Did you turn off particle effects? I think that's cl_particlefx 0.

I've turned paticle fx off. I don't know why people say turning it off helps. When I did, my fps were exactly the same. Nothing changed except I didn't have "special effects" anymore, so I turned it back on.

Were you on a map with rain or snow?

A map with both rain and snow, or both a map with rain and a map with snow? It does help for people who have limited cpu and doesn't have enough for the extra cpu required by the particle effects. So, if you have a good computer with plenty of memory, it probably wont make a difference and you should keep it on.
