Someone kill Charter for me please. I'm doing good in dod and having fun, so they then decide to play with my connection and I can't get below 500 ping. Not to mention it'll probably be like this for the rest of the day. It'll also be spazzing back and forth during the next month. Then, it'll go down for awhile, and when they finally decide to give us our cable back, they'll taunt us with pings that spike from 40 to 4500 and back down for about a week.
I hate Charter...

lol, welcome to the club.
My server that is 2 miles from my house has more hops to it than going to chicago. 22 freakin hops to be exact. DSL here has about 6 hops. Hopefully DSL will be available in sept hopefully. |

Well I had my local cable company run some tests, cox cable, and what they found has me really upset. Before I leave las vegas I have 8 hops, seems a bit high but ok. They found a problem with hop 9. I saw the numbers and am starting to agree with them. Now I have had conversations with Evil Con Carne, friend and local to vegas, and he seems to be having the same problems. Now I am wondering if this bad hop would have anything to do with charter.
Another thing I am wondering about is there seems to be enough people here. Why not everybody file complaints about charter. I'm not sure if there is someplace to complain where it would do any good. Most of you all are smarter than me about stuff like that so I figured I would at least make the suggestion. If there is such a place then I would throw in my 2 cents as well, for the cause anyways.

Nah, it's not a bad hop. They just like to screw around with our cable for fun. Probably get bored up there or something.
Sometimes when I'm playing, I'll get a connection error. Just a sudden error, with no signs of getting one before it happens. Before a second can even pass, my connection is back. But because of that one second error, I have to re-connect to the server. I swear there's a couple of Charter employees unplugging the connection and then reconnecting it as fast as they can.
And even if we got people to send them complaints, as I'm sure some people already do, it wouldn't help. First they'd tell us they have no idea what we're talking about, implying that we are insane and just trying to waste their time or get free days all throughout the conversation. Then after about a week of 3 hour phone calls per day, they finally break down and say that they have "found a slight error that wasn't there when you first called them, but is probably causing all your problems". They will then proceed to "work as hard as they can to fix the problem". This routine involves a month or more of higher pings and lower speed, spontaneous downtimes which are always so conviently placed that we don't get extra days, and all phonecalls saying something is wrong are politely answered by "We are well aware of this problem and are fixing as fast as we can". No matter what the problem or what they're fixing, there's your answer. If you can somehow persuade them that they aren't fixing your new problem, they'll make up some excuse to get out of giving you free days, and then will proceed to repeat this entire routine over again, therefore giving you more trouble and downtime. Once they have finished "fixing the problem", you will experience spontaneous downtimes throughout the common week, as well as higher pings that regularly spike up to 4500 for an hour or so. If you call them about this, they will say that: it is all client side, you are an idiot and don't realize that high pings and slow connection are pure myth, or that this is normal and will go away soon. Soon meaning 6 months. Everytime you try and call them, they will deny everything. And don't try to persuade them something is wrong, or they might go and "try to fix it" again.
This is a regular thing if you have charter for a connection company. Now they will SOMETIMES do something right and improve service. But for the most part, they're stupid little idiots who seem to find it funny to take all your money and give you jack squat.
Also, this is just for internet connections. I don't know about other areas, but in my area, charter provides excellent cable TV. That's about it though :/
