Yeah ok so my computer froze, no big deal it does it all the time. I'm sitting watching it load back-up when a black screen comes up saying that Windows found a system error and that I had to start in some weird mode and run this config program to fix it. I did what is said (it gave me no options I either went into this weird mode or shut down the computer and restarted, only to get the same error). So I enter whatever the hell mode and run this program and after about a minute it says that it fixed the error and reloaded my computer from a recent back-up. So I load the computer, first it has a blue bar that takes about ten minutes copying system files and crap and then it loads, taking much longer than usual. So I am really pissed that I had to wait so long and then to find that my computer is all fux0red up. The desktop icons are all still there (including one I added two days ago) and their programs load fine, but fore almost everything I load it's as if it were the first time loading it on my computer, such as winamp keeps asking me to register (as if I had just downloaded it and not refused to register yet). Still not too big of a deal but now whenever I try and run some programs they immediately get illegal operations, close down, and then I cant load ANYTHING else without restarting my entire machine, these programs include Half-life. I open up TFC connect to a server, see the console prompt, get into game and as soon as I choose my class it closes to the desktop and if I try and re-open half-life it says it has an illegal operationa nd won't open, so I tryed opening explorer after TFC had crashed and it also has an illegal operation. WTF COMPUTER, BJ!!
And yes I tried restarting, I think im currently at 8 restarts (including the four that the computer froze while booting up) and every time its the same thing.
Computer I'll devour your mechanical soul with a spoon and then kick your limp case into a fire where you will be floated down a river filled with rapids and waterfalls and then you will be taken and thrown out of an airplane and then your remains will be burned with a flamethrower and I will urinate on yoru ashes and sent them on a rocket into the sun you piece of crap |

That almost sounds like a virus or bad memory stick
I had a virus that was like that a few years ago it would move files and change starup programs everytime I would turn comp. on

No it wasnt Safe Mode. I don't know if a restore would work because it pretty much is restored except that alot my programs preform illegal operations.
I'm scanning for viruses right now. And If i find one see bottom of first post ^^^^^
*EDIT*
no, im not scanning for virus because Norton Antivirus gets an error too They had a fix for it on their site but there's only one problem, none of the folders im supposed to alter exist anymore because my computer is a mechanical shell of a demonic alien life-form bent on destroying my existence (well the computer parts of my existence). So now I have to un and reinstall Norton Antivirus tomorrow

If norton won't work try a free scan with www.antivirus.com. I'm sure there are other free scans. _________________

new computer unless you want to type format c: in dos. Everytime i have errors such as that which screw up my system (but keep windows booting up just fine) i spare myself the frustration and i move what i want saved to my backup drive. System restore wont always fix your problems (or it fixes a problem and creates more, especially if you installed something and the restore goes back before the installation was made, leaving files and dead links all in your system). It sux to have to format, but it is good to give your pc a colonic. If there was a certification for formatting a pc, i'd have it by now (norton is the devil, it was the cause of several formats). If you lock up a lot, then maybe its time to look into some new hardware (ram first incase a stick is going bad), then motherboard and maybe a new cpu if a new one is required. Sure, it isnt that cheap, but maybe your problems will be fixed without having to buy a new computer. (oh yeah, check your capacitors on your motherboard that are next to the cpu. they look like little batteries with 2 wires comming from the bottom of them going into the motherboard. If any of these are leaking black stuff, then it is time for a new motherboard or you will smell something burning eventually. When these go bad, your computer can lock up). kthx _________________ "I think it's dumb when people say video games affect kids negatively, I mean, if Pac-Man affected us, we'd all be hanging out in dark rooms, munching pills and listening to repetitive music...." Sounds like your NTUSER.DAT got corupt and windows mad a new user for you. Check in C:\Documents and Settings and see if there's a cloned user file for you with a much smaller NTUSER.DAT than your original username. _________________ All comments are not nessasary those of the author so should not be taken as so.

If this were the case, most of his settings would have returned to default.
I believe your best solution is going to be to reload Windows. It's a bitch, but it should resolve all your problems.
If you continue to lock-up, even after a complete re-install, it might be hardware related...look at whether or not your system is getting too hot and the cpu is trying to protect itself from overheat. _________________

That is what caused one of my computers to lock up a lot. I'd check that and your temperatures also. If you bought your computer from a store, it is less likely they will overheat since they have to be given certified heatsinks w/ proper fans for that processor before they are sold. Depending on your processor, the "normal" temp will vary. You could always try a few more chassis fans, pci blower, memory heatsinks, HD fans, bigger heatsink with a bigger, faster fan...or a koolance case I loaded mine up with fans, its a lot cooler now. _________________ "I think it's dumb when people say video games affect kids negatively, I mean, if Pac-Man affected us, we'd all be hanging out in dark rooms, munching pills and listening to repetitive music...."
