Well boys and girls its official...the price for the playstation 20 gig is $499 and the 60 gig is $599. It will be released in the states November 17th.
I am sure they know what they are doing, but being a loyal PS fan from the get go i cannot bring myself to pay $599 for a video game system then have to shell out likely $150 bucks for another controler and some games. The last time a video game system was this much it was the ole 3DO and well im sure very few people here remember that system. This to me seem idiotic, but maybe its a joke or a way to see how the public will react and they will lower the price down to something like XBOX 360 range. I know the specs and the hardware in there are expensive, but as of last week i had kept reading how Sony was going to go ahead an take a loss for a few years because they were confident that most studios would come around to Blue-Ray DVD. Ugh but 600 dollars for the top of the line one, its not known now whether or not the expensive one will come with more stuff like the white box and green box 360. Geeze how many people are going to be able to afford that or want to afford that...BAD GAME SONY!
To be fair ill give the official specs as of this morning....
* cd, dvd, blu-ray disc
* bluetooth, WiFi, giga-bit ethernet
* dolby digital surround sound
* removable harddrive
* true 1080p HD resolution
* wireless controller, up to 7 players and will be like Wii's controlers and impliment motion
* compatible with psone, ps2, dvd, cd, blu-ray
Interoperability with PSP.
* November 2006 worldwide launch confirmed.

I remember the 3DO...
Heck I remember the Atari 2600
Pity about the price...I guess the XBox 360 will do well this Christmas! _________________

the rumor soon vtec is that people on PC and Console will get to play with each other using which ever medium they want...so you might be fighting someone in DOD that is playing it on their playstation (thats just example main games they have been clammoring about are HALO, BF, and COD).

hooray for pc games
I doubt i need to explain the logical superiority of pc games over console games.

that'll never happen, all of the people with consoleswould get owned.
There was no doubt in my mind that it was gonna be atleast $500. When you were saying you thought they were gonna take a loss, they did. The hardware is very expensive and selling it for $500 is a big loss. I think its stupid that they kept the old controller design, i always get cramps in my hands because the handles are so small. I don't care, I'm not gonna get it anyway. _________________ R.I.P. Blue |

Funny you say that Mike, because out of all the controllers, most people find Playstation hit the nail on the head with their first try when it comes to that. Poeple like that controller the most overall.
But yeah, everyone look at things this way. If you were going to buy a computer with all that kind of stuff, even jsut for the tower, what do you think you would pay? About that price right?
When it comes to consoles, people just want to pay less for more. It's always been like that. And I believe the launch of the PS2 was around $700 canadian, so I dont think this is the first system to do it. _________________
