It doesn't look good, If @Home went down that means I would have to dial-up on 28.8

I don't even have a modem in my computer.
Even if I did, I have the most ancient telephone system in the world in my area. I can only get 21.4 at 3am. 19 the rest of the day if I am lucky.

CycoMom and I would be really hurting as we have no modems in any of our computers. However we were unaffected the last supposed outage in october for some reason. This could be ugly. |

Looks Like its time to jump ship while you can and get something else if possible.
Have RoadRunner in your area?

Nope, no other options. To far away from the CO for DSL. Maybe I will be lucky and At&T will pick me up. And lets face it, dial-up is just not an option due to the old wiring in my area. Not for gaming anyhow.

I use Road Runner's cable and when I am able to get on DSL, I will do it ASAP. The speed of the cable is fine, but the service sucks.
Not to mention that lately I'll be playing TFC and then I get a "connection failure" message. When I get out of the game I cannot even get anywhere on the net. I have to reboot the modem and try again
When DSL gets close enough it's mine! |

Don't think DSL is without it's own pitfalls. There is no such thing as perfect broadband. check out http://www.dslreports.com There you will see that not all DSL ISP's are what they are cracked up to be. I actually used their free service to log the problems I was having with @home. Turned out the problems I was having was due to my node being unbalanced. The information I provided to @home identified the problem and it was fixed. The forums at that website are filled with top notch people willing to help you out with your registry settings, tracerouting and such. If you are having trouble with your broadband, go check them out.

I use RoadRunner and I get pingtimes people dream of, I've been at 19 in games on TV1 before. I haven't had to call them yet for service, so I don't know what it's like. I never get disconnected so everything is cool.
I used to be a 56K slow mo joe. I suggest everyone start out playing at a laggy speed, when you get really good there, try coming to broadband, you'll see a huge increase in skill you never knew you had.

I have videotron...those monopolizing bastards! They have a max download/upload of 6gb/1gb per month! this month I dled 9.4gb/.4gb, because of that I have to pay an extra 70$! They have horrible service, the internet speed reeeeaaaly fluctuates alot, sometimes I have a ping time of 100 and sometimes I have a ping time of 1000.

Yes I have Excite@home/AT&T service, so I think may be ok. AT&T should just flip us over with hopefully not to much trouble. Note the word "hopefully". And to those thinking of switching to DSL beware. From working in the industry I garauntee you will have more trouble with the DSL providers then good old MaBell, except if you go with some high end flunten service like Birch DSL that you will pay an arm, leg and eye for. |

If you guys are looking at Directv dsl (bought out telocity) let me know. I do sales for them and if it's a viable option for you let me know here. The tech support is a bit slow, but otherwise it seems to be pretty decent. Yes, DSL really is pretty much hit or miss like P'star said. I get a great connection, but some would be really shitty based upon location to CO, wire integrity, fiberoptics, and the network itself. DSLreports is a good place to start. The availabilty info is NOT 100% accurate though.

I have Road Runner in my area, but my mom wont let me get it cause she says its a waste, since I only play TFC on the computer, and pretty much dont use it for anything else. Oh well, looks like im stuck in a 56k continuum. Noooooo!!!!
