|
|
After getting one of these int he past week or so I talked to some guys in my WebDeveloping class, what they are, are java popups that can popup on your computer at any time, even when IE is not even running. One guy reported one came up over his screen saver.
These are IP driven popups that when some uncouth ad organisation with no morals or objections to agressivly advertising their crap on your computer get your IP adress when you visit a site or view one of their popups. They then ssend the message through one of your open ports which are 10030-10039 I think. Those ports are always open to the public and they can send the java popup info through those directly onto your PC.
I think we should have a war of disarmament on the bastid Ad Companies. _________________ World of Warcraft:

You can cut them off YPAWOM, just open up your Services in Windows 2000 or XP and disable Messenger. I had them popping up non stop till I cut off messenger. Most home users don't have any use for messenger anyway. _________________

My messenger is cutoff, I took it off my computer completely. And so did these other guys I talked to. It's some new trick that they found out, I do know popup blockers stop them though. _________________ World of Warcraft:

Yep I ran adaware instantly after I saw it happen and caught 20something items. I cleared them off and I don't remember if they appeared after that, but It's pretty fucked up that ad companies would do such a thing. Just as a warning to everyone else out there, watch out for these popups, I think I took care of mine for now. _________________ World of Warcraft:

I get alerts from my firewall all the time saying it has blocked access to these ports from such and such a location IP. Shouldn't a good firewall block these ads and hide your IP? I know mine does (stealth mode). _________________

Ummm... where exactly would the services thing be located on your comp? I looked around for a while but couldn't find it. |
