okay, i didn't know whether or not to put this in gen ranblings, here, the complaint department or john doe's tip section.. but in light of recent event, and in case the situation may call for it?

how do we record a demo?

woudl it be possible to make that a sticky in the complaint department, just a basic how to since demo's are our best proof of anything.i had wanted to ask this when all that jazz was going on, not to bring it back up or anything, but this could be helpful to all of us( at least those that don't know how..)

thank you

open the console and type this:

record doddemo

or

record XXXX

name it whatever you want to. It saves off into your half-life\dod folder as a ".dem" file titled whatever you named it.

to play the demo you open up DoD and goto console and type this:

playdemo doddemo

or

playdemo XXXX

it should play. Sometimes they get corrupted but usually they record fine. THis can also be done with any of the other mods in halflife. You will just find the files in their respective directories... Hope this helps

I posted this in another thread. And I would like to add that I appreciate your interest in helping to maintain a fun gaming enviroment here at the Ville.org!

To stop recording type stop in console.

To play unzip and type playdemo (and whatever you named it) ie: playdemo joeblow in console.

Gizanked, you can use this handy-dandy demo script that I have. This makes it so you don't have to waste time going into console, and typing the commands. Put this somewhere in your config.cfg.

alias rec rec1
alias rec1 "messagemode record; alias rec rec2"
alias rec2 "stop; alias rec rec1"
bind "KEY" "rec"

When you bind a key as your demo key, you press it in game, and a messagemode var appears at the top (the same place where you would find the say command) but this one says "record:". You type the name of what you want the demo to be, and hit enter. It will record, then when you want to stop, hit the button again.

I think you might have to make your config.cfg a READ-ONLY file because I don't think TFC likes aliases and the sort.
