Ok, actually this a fairly serious post from me and thats fairly unusual.
Tonight is my companies Christmas party, and it reminded me that the Christmas season soon will be upon us. There will be parties to attend, drinks with friends after work or classes, and general good holiday cheer with friends and family.
I have attached a mp3 file here from Bob Rivers which I would like you all to download and listen to. Bob Rivers does some very funny knockoffs of songs (Some day Greebo might be able to catch him) and this one is based on Carol of the Bells. Its called carol of the bartenders.

Now why would I go to the trouble to post this? About 6 years ago during December I lost a good friend to impared driving. He died behind the wheel and his girlfriend in the passenger seat was seriously injured. Needless to say that that Christmas was not a very merry one for myself, his family or friends.
I guess the only thing that I am thankful for is when my friend crashed his car it was a single car collision and nobody else was injured or killed.
I ask you all to not drink and drive, your putting yourself and your passengers at risk as well as everyone else on the road. I dont think I could stand to loose another friend this way.
Signed a somber and sober JD

JD, that is a terrible tragedy and my heart goes out to you and yours. Drunk driving is a completely irresponsible action for one's own life as well as everyone else around them. Drinking should be done at home or somewhere one plans to spend the night. If you don't have cab fare, don't go out to the bar to drink!
Driving while under the influence is a felony offense in Alabama, if you are lucky enough not to hurt anyone or yourself before the cops getcha.
Get a designated driver! Speaking of...
JD, would you be my DD for this holiday season? I heard that you were off the bandwagon of late and we would love to have you along! just cause ya aint drinkin' dont mean ya cant have fun! WOOHOOO!!!

As I look back to the first, of to many of my friends who have died from either their own or others drugs/drinking actions. All I can see is how much I've experinced and enjoyed. How much fun I've had and will have. But they lay cold and buired with no memories no kids (except for the 2 kids who now have no dad) no hopes no dreams. Nothing. Still buried where I stood and said good bye. So it's been for 33 plus years. The memorys are still fresh the losses just as great.
Some of you will have these same feeling, some of you will have to live with cold nawing regret of your actions and some of you will end up with the toe tag.
Please be careful nothing ruins lives as fast and permenantly as this.

I can seriously relate to your loss John. I've took for granted all my life the simple things that we never consider important until something happens to somebody you either Love,Know,or it is you. Don't take life for granted because tomorrow isn't promised to nobody! Like the song goes, You don't know what you have until it's gone! Love Life, Love Each other and most importantly Love Yourself!!!!!! I'd give anything in this world to regain what I've lost 11yrs ago,Anything!!!! Mine was not contributed by Drinking and Driving but even so, it could paralyze you for the rest of your lives inwhich your just a shell of what you once were. Don't put your Life or the lives of others in danger for an evening of Holiday Cheers. Your wondering what to give your Family/Friends/Loved Ones for Christmas, Give them the gift of Life and that is something that money can't buy....
On another note I'll be out of commission until I can get my PC straightend out once again,I put Win ME on and it's really acting strange... Take it easy....

Thanks everyone for the kind words and contributions.
Now if I ever hear of any of you doing something stupid like drinking and driving Im gonna pay you a visit as Fragfailure would say.
And Jcom, if your coming up to Canada to have a white Christmas I will be glad to be the designated driver.

I'm very sorry to hear of everyone's losses and echo the sentiment about drinking and driving. But I just want to add one thing. I don't drink anymore myself. But when I did I had no conscious wish to do anything as STUPID as drinking and driving. But one night after too many, I didn't have the judgement to find another way home and I did drive. I didn't hurt anybody, or crash, or get arrested or anything, but when I saw that car in the morning and could barely remember getting there, it scared the bejesus out of me. Everybody knows you shouldn't drink and drive. But don't put yourself in a position where your alcohol impaired judgement could allow you to decide it's not such a bad idea.
If you know you're goin out drinkin, just get a ride or give your keys to someone sober when you get there. Don't trust your drunk self to figure it out later.
Sorry, if this sounds preachy, but I'd rather sound like a dork now, than be sending condolences about you later.
