Well, looking at my science book actually, there are some terms in here about what my life revolves around....tfc

Half-Life - The time it takes for half of the atoms in an isotope to decay.

Natural Selection - Organisms with traits best suited to their environment are more likely to survive and reproduce.

The natural selection description makes sense, but what does half-life have to do with anything?

I also remember seeing hte word Lag somewhere in this thing.

anyways...just thought maybe you didn't know what this means?

the single player game of half-life revolves around stuff like that. like atomic nuclear reactor and stuff. remember those levels.

It's based on the radioactive sample of rock from Xen in the beginning that starts the whole resonance cascade and causing Gordon Freeman to become Scientist gone Rambo and annihilate an entire dimension's race and powerstructure to save Earth from being invaded by them.

The scientific concept of a "half-life" has to do with radioactivity. The half-life of an element is how long its radioactivity will take to dimish by half. If you've got some radioactive element giving off 400 rads now, and it diminishes to 200 rads in 2 years, then the half-life is 2 years.

Aside from that, it's a really cool-sounding name for a computer game.

Also, MY science textbook has a definition for TFC. No kidding! Here it is:

"TFC abrv. for 'Team Fortress Classic'. Definition: T3H L337 G43M W1HT T3H H4X0R2 4ND T3H 2N1P4RS G3T K1KC3D 4ND B4NN3R3D B1 T3H 4DM1N127R4TOR2! Y3W R3WL A4DM1NS! W00T!!!11 0MG R0FLM40L0LZ3R!!!!111"

I still don't know what that means, but I find myself going around calling people "n00b" a lot.

Adding on to what Usually Dead said. Something is "radioactive" if it's protons and neutrons are outside the boundries of the strong nuclear force. The strong nuclear force holds an atom's nuclei together (otherwise the electrostatic repulsion from two positively charged protons would cause the nucleus to break apart). All elements past Bismuth (atomic # 83) are radioactive, that is because the width of their nuclei exceeds the width of the SNF. An atom could also be radioactive if it's neutron to proton ratio is too great. Example: Hydrogen-3, also called Trittium, has a neutron to proton ratio of 3:1. Another example, Carbon 14, which it's ratio is 1.3:1, is also a radioactive isotope, and we use Carbon-14 in carbon-dating. Synthetic elements, like 112-118 have a Half-Life of like .0003432 or some-odd seconds. Those are way unstable, but those are made wih nuclear fusion.

Ahh enough science, I need a #Beer
