I can't get any of the drivers passed version 30.82 to work on my computer. Sometimes the computer won't boot up, sometimes it just won't let me change the settings in the display properties and gives me an error involving rundll32 and nvmode.dll

Is this the same PC you are running at 100mhz instead of the reccommended 66mhz?

This is the same computer that I have had all of my other problems with, but I have been running at PC66 for a long time now. And the problems occur at PC66 or PC100. I would almost rather you just stay out away my tech questions. We just get into arguments about both of our 5+ years of experience.

I'm really hesitant to make any suggestions here. I know Borgs system is on the verge of imploding, I'd hate to push it over the edge.

I have read that often the nvidia driver builds do not work in every system. I would suggest you either try moving up a build, of go back to the ones that worked.

I think they are up to 41.09 now. I have the link to 41.20 betas, but, I don't think you want untested drivers in your situation.

http://www.3dchipset.com/drivers/index.php will get the latest drivers available.

btw.... Borg, have you considered replacing your system? There is a place near my house the sells used computers on Ebay. There are often outstanding deals available. Most are dells that are only partial computers. You could probably use some parts from the old computer to build a newer one. This might help with your problem. PM me for the details.

With all the problems you are having/have had I'd probably think about reformating if possible. That and upgrading to a system without all the chronic errors.

Torak, can't you just stay out of my matters. Reformatting hasn't help ever and getting a new system is completely impossible.

Ya' know, it's funny that you're chewing out everyone that is trying
to give suggestions.

Why did you even post?

I'm sorry, but this is a pet peeve of mine. My job is front-line tech support
for a large regional bank. I can't tell you how many people call me up
with a question and then chew me out about how stupid my answers are.
If they were so smart, why did they call?

If you are going to yell at people for trying to help, why did you post?
At the very least, can't you have ignored the suggestions you didn't like?
Or just fix it yourself?

Edit: In fact, I've talked to 5 people like this so far tonight,
and my worknight is not over yet. And I'll point out that this is a
very slow night since most people are focused on the superbowl.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. That's my summation to this thread. GRRRRR!

It is more of a track record. Torak especially. My comment to Torak was more of a general one.

I would like constructive things that would lead to a real solution. Not like idiotsavant saying that my system can't handle the ram, when I know well that it can.

Okay, well take my comment as a general one also: I hate it when people
ask for help, but with an arguementative attitude.

You ask on a public message board for help and then when people respond you are hostile to them. It forces me to consider if you really want help or not? My advice is sound seeing as how your computer is very old and so likely hasn't been reformated in a while. I was only trying to help. But, I get chewed out.

===============================================
So, in a further helping attitude I offer the community this (and yes, this is a rant and direct personal stab at borg - so be prepared.)

When getting ready to post at the ville Borg goes through an elaborate process of deciding what he will write about. He has three options (and not one of them is other). He can choose:

1. To whine about how his ping is horrible and it keeps him from playing. This can be further developed into ideals about why he is "the worst player ever".

2. To whine about how his computer is not working and cannot be fixed even though it has been "fixed" numerous times - or at least advice has been offered numerous times.

3. To whine about how horrible his life is so "we" should pity him.
===============================================

Hehe, and if anyone wants to do one on me I only have one option - make saracastic posts about ppl :p

good day m8's

Torak wins

On your problem...I'd say upgrading wouldn't hurt. And you could probably pick up a 1ghz system now for only a few hundred almsot anywhere.
