It does not matter what the Afghanistan people want. As cynical as that sounds they are in no means a position to decide what works and what doesn't. In this case the Taliban cannot stay in power and the US stay safe, it is tactically unfeasable. Remember, we are a democracy, and the majority rules(even though our ACTUAL political system works contrary to that, but for different reasons). When the majority (the 'free' world) is threatened with such a dire plight(Death), then the minorities lesser needs may go unheaded, including the people of Afghanistans need for stable government. It is a necissary condition, which I cannot go against, after all, I am with the majority, whether I want to be or not. Osama does not care whether I sympathize with him, the fact of the matter is I am an enemy. There for he is to fanatic to exist in our 'free' world, including all his collegues, so he must change, or be eliminated as a threat to my, and your, personal liberty. He, the Taliban, and all supporters of his belief (Not Muslim, to stave off confusion, but his ultra brand of Theocracy), are no longer a minority/majority/faction in politics, they are disidents and fanatics. And there is no one more narrow minded and dangerous as a fanatic.
Though on another note...
I have always wondered if I myself am a fanatic, seeing as I fanatically despise them. And there for should I wish myself stopped? - And that, my friend is the difference between politics and philosophy
Politics: I know I am right
Philosophy: I assume I am wrong
Yet all modern Politics sprang from the minds of Philosophers. Odd?
