| Quote: | Handheld Football
Brian: What's this supposed to be?
EGM: Football. It's one of the first great portable games.
Brian: I thought it was Run Away From the Dots.
John: I don't see how this has anything remotely to do with football.
EGM: Which team are you playing?
Kirk: The red lines.
Tim: They could've just as easily called this game anything—Baseball, Bowling, Escape From the Monsters.
EGM: Did you score?
Kirk: I bumped into a dot. |
How can it be baseball? The field is clearly a football field and the dots are obviously the players. This just makes it seem more scripted. If they are smart enough to know what Corporate Sabatage, then they should be able to figure that out. _________________

Asians aren't necissarily smarter, they come from a strict culture of hard work constantly. They study harder and more than any other cultural group.
As for the George Carlin and Dennis Miller those were the only 2 I could think of at the moment and I used them also becuse most everybody knows who they are. It's better to give 2 good examples that everybody can relate to instead of a dozen obscure ones.
Another example, Stephen Hawking. Yes, him. The guy has quite a sense of humor and boy does he loves him some hookers and "pole dancers"
If you're using my comment about how they picked the kids, then yes in that definition I guess you could call that rigged. But how often do publications and media just 'Pick the Average Person' other than Jay Leno's 'Jaywalking' bit. The kids were probably not picked at random. _________________ World of Warcraft:

Yeah, they weren't random at all. There were 2 Wongs, 2 Burkes, and 2 Coopers. Isn't that kind of coincidental? _________________

Put all that together and you come to the conclusion that most asians are smarter than the average joe. If you study math a lot, then make 100 on a hard math test while others are making 60's, people are going to call you smart. Of course they work harder, but that itself is a smart thing to do. Few times are people born complete geniuses that can always make A's, and never have to study or try in their entire life. _________________

Wow, Chen, I always feel so special when you decide to grace a thread with your dumbass crap. If you can't roll out a thought on topic from your vacuous mind, don't even type anything.

On Topic
In matter of smarts vs intelligence, yes there are much more smart people than intelligent people, and yes I agree that most asian students are that, although asians are still a minority so you can't really get a good sample size, but the ones I've known give good indication that the majority of them are like that. Although there is their obsession with Karaoke and they like to shoot eachother here over disputes about their riceburners or women. Perhaps they're just beginning to Americanize.
...Of the names being spot on doubles, perhaps they were the cousins and little siblings of the people at EGM? Some cross section of American kids, the staffs little brothers and sisters. _________________ World of Warcraft:

VP:
“The Acropolis” is a hill of rock (and the highest point) in the ancient city of Athens, Greece. It was the religious and political heart of the city and represented the height of Greek achievement. The hill contained many buildings, the four most important being the Parthenon, the Temple of Athena, the Erechtheion and the Propylaea (the gateway of the Acropolis).
An acropolis was the fortified height of a Greek city (akro means “top” and is the root of English word acme, and polis means “city” – hence “the top of the city”).
I have to agree that there are some disturbing things about the kids that were "interviewed".
Just keep them away from my daughter ya hear! _________________

Once again Powers, you've proved my point Amongst all those tiny little fragments of points, my main argument was that this event was rigged in some way or form, even though EGM made it out to be your typical 10-13 year old today.

Yeah, I figured that my description left a lot to be improved on. I did a semi-architectural math project on the Parthenon in 7th grade. I needed some background research about it, and jsut continued reading about the Acroppolis for a bit. _________________

Asians are a minority??? Aren't there like billions of them in China and the far east? Not to mention the millions in New York, California, and most the ski hills around the U.S. I don't think there is any major culture that you could consider a minority, Unless maybe the hard-working middle class white man.
Anyway back on topic, I think both of VP and YPAWOM have good points and I honestly can't make a 100% choice between the two of them, all your points make sense. I guess in my opinion I am sure there was alot more than 13 kids doing this test, and that they selectively wrote only the most outrageous comments in the article. Lets face it, the article wouldn't have been very interesting without those comments. If those kids would have said " yeah, space invaders is great!! I could play it for hours", I would have thought "Who gives a shit! so did I" But when a 10 year old brings out the word hooker while describing a video game, LOL thats when I read on!! The point of any good article is to 1st get the readers attention and 2nd to keep it. That article gave me some entertainment for about 5 mins, and I actually laughed out loud. VP you need to stop looking so deep into the negative side of things looking for the conspiracy theory, and just enjoy some of these things at face value. Life is way too short to spend soooo much time analyzing a test done purely for entertainment. |

Welcome to my world I was actually just bored and decided to post about it.
I should probably stop looking for conspiracies (he's watching you, you know) and enjoy things as they come, but something about articles like that just bug me. _________________

LOL no no, I know that of course there are 10 of them worldwide to anyone else. I was talking about in America they are still a minority, yet a growing one.
Vicoden you raised a very good point with the number of kids. Though it could have been those 13 kids, but they might have had quite long interviews and alot of stuff was said. That's where the editor I'm sure stepped in and gleaned out the gems to hook people and make them laugh. Success!
The games were fun then, but I'm glad they've come as far as they have, and I can't wait to see what's in store for the future! Crap like the holodeck in StarTrek would rule for gaming! _________________ World of Warcraft:
