Manson is all right in my book just for putting on a great show that you won't soon forget. The same goes for Kiss, Rob Zombie, and anyone else who gives me my $50 worth. If I go to a loud stinky arena and get crammed in like a sardine, I don't want a subtle, contemplative musical experience. I want my teeth kicked in.

Why's he a psycho maian?
Cos he's different?
Doubt it.
As he said in a recent interview I saw, he has pretty much the same morals as yer average Joe on the street.
Just cos he expresses himself differently and goes in the exact opposite direction that society expects people to doesn't mean by any means that he's a bad person.
Why should he conform to society? He's not hurting anyone.
As for going to hell, he's not exactly a god fearing person, so I doubt that sort of crap would worry him.

I know no one should have to conform to society, but that guy is too far out there. He just feels insecure about who he is, so he has to act like a psycho. Just looking at him can tell you what kind of guy he is. I mean dressing like that, and looking like that shows how crazy he is. Hes so immature too. Im not saying that Im all that mature, but I dont go that far. is he going to act like that when hes 40 (if he lives to 40) or 80. I dont want the guy to die, but he seems pretty disturbed, and in turn suicidal. And if he does live to be that old, he'll probably settle down, and become withered and old. which also proves that he cant stand his own fate. And whats with that Satanism thing? I know Im not one to judge, but God sure will. And anyonw who is not afraid of an eternty of misery sure as hell has something wrong with them.

As for MM (manson), M&M(emenim) (are we seeing a pattern here? lol) well I personally don't like them because they seem kinda gimicky to me. I am sure they are fairly normal people, as a mentally disturbed person would have considerable trouble getting a record contract with the anal retentive music studios these days.
Its all really just an act. And not my kind of act either. Just because something is different dosent make it right. Most of eminem's lyrics dont appeal to me and MM's image/appearence dosent appeal either. Its not that I'm so shocked and outraged at what they say and do, its just that think its all a bit overkill. I prefer a bit of subtlety in my music.
Some of my favorites: Dave Matthews Band, Phish, Rolling Stones, Who, Blink 182, Nirvana, Sound Garden, Black Crowes, Bob Dylan, Pearl Jam, Tom Petty, Weezer. |

Hey Ice. My rule is this. To be music some sort of instrument has to be played. A DJ does not count imo. That's just dance/club music. That doesn't take talent to spin a few LP's. I've done a little DJ stuff and played in a band. I'd rather create music rather than mix sounds and sample.
Also btw...Another pet peeve of mine is too much sampling. Sampling is ok to an extent, but when you make that sample the hook or main riff of your song...it totally blows chunks. That becomes a rip off in my opinion and not original. Give me three chords and a cloud of dust!

Ok various things to address from here:
He certainly ain't insecure about himself, do you think anyone that was insecure would put on the kind of shows he does? The last thing he is in insecure.
As for how he dresses, are Drag Queens immature? Nope, case closed there
He ain't immature, if he was he would've actually hurt someone by now but he hasn't, please explain why he is immature.
As for satanism:
Satanism (despite what people will tell you) is NOT the worshipping of some satanic devil and doing evil things etc. It's the denial of Christian religions (or any other that has some sort of devil figure). It's living for yourself, not some geezer who apparently lived 2000 years ago and who, for some inexplicable reason, still has an influence on people's lives today. By that definition I'm a satanist too, so is every other atheist.
And the reason he's not afraid of an enternity of misery is cos he doesn't believe there is one!!!
He believes we should live our lives as we see fit (so long as we don't hurt others in the process of doing so).
As far as he is concerned, when you die, that's it, end of story, curtain closes, time to push up the daisies.
Forgot to add: Couldn't agree more with Fragfailure re: trance (or dance etc)

Like the ole saying goes "Opinions are like assholes.. Everybody has one" Let's please drop the religion thread. A TFC board is not an appropriate place for this. If you like Marilyn Manson or not, this about our favorite songs and not about religion.

Well I guess everyone has already summed up all the band I listen to. Mostly all of them minus a few.
But two great bands that I think nobody mentioned.
Social Distortion
Toad The Wet Sprocket
Other Great bands.
RadioHead
NIN
Nitzer Ebb
Skinny puppy
Joe Satriani
Chet Atkins
It realy depends on the mood I'm in mainly becuase I'll listen to anything except gangster rap unless it's old like NWA and Public Enemy. |

I agree Robert, lets drop the religion thing. But can we stick to MM? JK. Im just saying that anyone who needs to act like that needs attention, bad. As for cstone, well put, I agree with what you said. And Cstone, yours and SuperZeros music rocks dude, I cant believe I forgot about Creed, The Stones, and Travis. And Ice, im not old, im only 15, but I'm not a typical punk teenager who likes to be rebllious by listening to crappy music. And Frag, a DJ is like a composer, bringing together the perfect blend of music to sound good, however I dont like dance music, its too repetitive, but artists like The Wiseguys, and Fatboy Slim are great! Haven't you seen that video for "Weapon Of Choice"? Its awesome!!! The man, Christopher Walken dances around a hotel, its halarious! You should watch it somtime.

Call me old fashioned (or old), but my rule for music is -
If it aint got a lead and bass guitar, it aint music.
If the lead "singer" has to shout, he aint a singer, he is a shouter, and would do better supporting a soccer match....

Hey Maian, I have that video for fatboy slim on my PC. Its great. You would never expect Christopher Walken to be in that roll. But it turns out that before he was an actor he was a dancer, so its something he can do.
