it was a good idea, but, alas, made no difference. just as bad noise when directly in wall.

its fine, its all stuffed inside a cardboard box. and behind two desks to boot.
(which, makes it very annoying to put things in and out, but at least its out of the way...)

Well DUH. It could happen that way if a lamp was plugged in there too.
But most people I know don't walk around with glasses of water looking for a power outlet that is not protected with a surge protector.

Life is a safety hazard. Look at cars. People in cars cause accidents. Accidents in cars cause people.
