I just found my Dad's other brothers papers from 1944. He was in the Navy too. His w-2 for the year reads.., For the year ending 1944 total earned was 190.08. Total taxes withheld were 22.60.

Never going to make it rich at that rate!

Jack.....this isn't because of a stupid tv series. It's because not me or not just his family, but all of his comrades and brothers in arms think he deserves it. He was SUPPOSED to get it, but because of a rule they placed on D-Day, he couldn't. I'm sure the tv series helped everyone know who he is, but when you do the digging and the research like I have (I'm a military nut not to mention also I am a history major) you see that what a lot of men should have got they didn't. I'm just pushing for one man.....but I do know there are a LOT of men, and women for that fact that deserve it #Beer

Hey Greebo,

I am guessing your grandfather is still alive? If I were you and you were the least bit interested...you should ask him about his time over there, during WWII. You don't have to get the gritty details of blood and death, but info about where he served, what battles & campaigns he was in, what unit he was in, what was his "job"..was he a rifleman, mg crew, truck driver, etc...I wish I had ask more questions when my grandfather was around to answer them.

My grandfather passed away in 1995...he was 86 years old. No, he never talked about it much, and being young and stupid at the time...I didn't ask him too much about it. The little he did talk about had nothing to do with combat.....but...I do remember my aunt(his daughter) asking him why he doesn't talk about it more...and his answer was, "He didn't think anyone would want to hear about those things" and that was it.
The only two people he talked about combat was...was his nephew..who was also a combat infantryman in WWII with the 42d Infantry Division, who btw lost a leg in France to a German land mine, and to my father after he came back from his combat expiences during the Korean War.

Just a thought...ltr,
Kixx
