first of all, and best off all, type cl_particlefx 0 in your console. It will lower your detail levels to a minimum (and get rid of the annoying rain on donner muzzle flashes from your guns etc). I also use stopsound, which gets rid of some of the ambient sound, which frees up more processing power for graphics. However, you have an a64 3200+, so that shouldnt really be a problem for you. |

Fantastic.... seriously.
Turning off the Mini-Map makes a HUGE difference. I am now getting 70-100fps. I now see how people 'appear' to be very quick with a K98.
You guys r0xorz.

Here are some more.
Whats your monitor refresh rate at? Go to display properties, settings then advanced. Go to the monitor tab whats it set at? What monitor do you have? Whats the highest refresh rate it can go without unchecking the hide modes?
Depending what this is set at there are other options. Windows defaults the refresh rate to the settings above when playing openGL games. Especially halflife. With your video card and setup we should be able to get you to 90-100 fps in DoD and with v-sync ON (which looks better) at least to me. hehe

I know with my Radeon 9600 pro, I have to be running in 16 bit color mode in TFC otherwise, at certain points, I will have my fps drop to exactly half of my refreshrate. This might be something else to try since it appears to happen with radeon cards. _________________ I need to make a sig, but I don't have the time. Maybe I will eventually. |

Ok,
Try this too..
go to your display properties, settings, advanced..
click on the ati displays tab.
Where is says monitor make sure it reads your refresh rate. Now click on the word Monitor. It should should the DCC information and a drop down for refresh rate override. Try to put it same as desktop. You can also put it at the refresh rate you want. I usually use same as desktop though. In your case if you indeed have your monitor set for 120 this will keep it the same.
After appying that I usually check the advanced tab and under synchronization I have horizontal as a - vertical as a + and nothing in composite. That is the default usually on ATI cards from what I have seen. I believe hitting default will also put it to this setting.
You will notice the difference. Also you can put vsync on now and it will look better. (again my opinion hehe)
Windows defaults to 60mhz in games. The only place it stays at your refresh rate is on the desktop. This fixes that. _________________

ATI's OGL drivers blowz0rs. I do run at 75 fps on a 9600xt in OGL though. Make sure you are running OGL though. It is much nicer than D3d on Q2 engine games no matter what. The ALt-tabbing out of the game seems to screw up in D3d. Above 60 fps, there isn't much noticeable difference anyways. If you are running at 100 fps, you are fine. Your choke and packet loss isn't due to your system arrangement. Your system is is pretty top notch. Check your rate commands. Blown can help you with those. He is a hax0rs0rz. Mine run fine at default in TFC. Of course I don't DOD though. _________________ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - |

Rate
cl_cmdrate
cl_updaterate
You can play with those and help choke and packetloss. Just do one at a time though or you will get yourself all hosed up. Depends on your connection, and sometimes server related also. Some servers shove extra packets to you, so you may get choke from them. (HLBooster servers are an example)
Rate change values by 500 at a time, then fine tune from there, the other two I just change little by little. Personally rate 9000, cl_cmdrate 40, cl_updaterate 22 works great for me. Thats on a decent cable connection though. |

Depends on your monitor. Find out the highest it can support. _________________

The software that came with my monitor has a max setting for the refresh rate. As long as I stay within those parameters then there are no issues _________________
