RANT: Non Attackers, Old Topic/New Culprit

You should know more than anyone else the right way to play. I've don't remember seing a PWG guy not play team style. I don't think the pimps would let someone in like that. It's Team Fortress Classic and I expect players who can do to do. Players that play safe for the stats only shouldn't be here IMO. They don't promote teamplay nor are they really a factor in determining winning or losing (except sniper or engies in the mod.) Especially as a class (soldier) that should be on the front lines.

Frag, as per usual, you are correct. I've never seen a pimp abandoning his team.

But there is something to say for running back for some help. Dieing doesn't help your team much. Now, I know the case that you're talking about is more than simply 'running for health'. I've played with this guy too, and it bothers me as well. But we can't expect everyone tha plays at the ville to have the gameplay standards of the pimps, or the brotherhood. This is a public server, and there really is no way to enforce standards.

The ultimate question is what is this fellow gaining for himself by playing that style? The only people who see his good stats are the ones who come to the website. The ones who come to the website probably browse the forums. Those who browse the forums know that this particular fellow is about as popular as a 5000 ping.

So he racks up a lot of points so that the few of us who read the boards can hate him? Nice. I would rather suck and know that no one hates me. (You guys don't hate me secretly, do you?)

Everyone knows the difference between running for health and not attacking. Also read Bakuryu's great post on teamwork. I think these posts are related to each other.

Frag,

Im not saying I agree with the guy's tactics. I'm certainly not saying I would want him to be part of PWG. I'm just saying that I think it's going overboard when you start kicking people for not adhereing to a certain play style (i.e. gung-ho, fight-to-the-death, etc.) Its a Team game after all, and we aren't supposed to encourage random death matches (right??)

I'm not shunning running if you have low hp, that makes sense, but I'm talking about the people who spam and get hit twice and run like little girls. As much as I hate to say it, the game is half deathmatch. You gotta kill a lot to advance in the game, but I do agree some people go overboard and just kill for their own benefit instead of for their team. This game is highly socialist in a sense, since you kill and cap for the benefit of your team, not yourself. To slightly alter Karl Marx, "Teamplay is the Opium of the Masses"

I believe there is a certain amount of defence required for an attacking team. Especialy when you have a suicidal medic running into CP2 area when your team is attacking 3 and is infecting everyone. Or when Frag decides to pay someone a visit.

I love this cause most of the time he will let me know he is coming. LOL. However, I must agree that to hang back "Always" just to keep your score high is pretty lame. He has been consumed by the dark side of the stats. He may eventually come around but the lure of POTW is fairly strong.

Too bad we couldn't adjust the stats to reflect teams stats such as how many times you were on the winning team. Oh well, probably can't happen anyway.

Thus far in the top 5 this week is an 2 attacking soldiers, another soldier, a HW, and Frag hahahha.

BTW I did see Svvord attacking today on 5. Congrats for taking the flag and capping.

Running back to your base for health doesn't help your team at all. If I need health desperately, instead of wasting valuable seconds by running back to my base, I kill myself and respawn with full health/armor/ammo and a nice loadout of nades.

Heh, on Warpath with no 'nade packs, I'll sometimes make a suicide run just to get a fresh load of EMPs. If you see me running at a HWGuy with a spanner, it's only partially because of idiocy.

Then you have Avanti and other maps that don't start you out with a good load of grenades. You'd be a fool not to make use of EMPs or MIRVs or Concs if they're available to you, but you have to dash to the back of the map to get a load.

I'm still a noob but when I first started (2 months ago) I always ran like an frantic lunatic towards the front lines whether I was offence or defence or class for that matter, after getting killed for the zillionth time I adapted a new strategy... try to become a kick ass engi while working on effective nade tossing and really watching the game and it's players until I get better. This has made me more conservative... realizing this I chose a class that would not take away from someone who wanted to play a more aggressive class, that's why I picked the engi for now. So needless to say I'm not always running to get the flag, I'm working more to support my team behind the line, (although I do work the front line on warpath) Also when playing 2fort I like working our ramp room as a hw defence only.
Does this kind of play make me a victim of this threads rant?

Ok... I know what you mean now. I just played flagrun and everytime stinkin time I tried to do battle with Sword he ran back into his respawn like a little HaLcYoN... sorry but now I know where the anger comes from, and the kicker is he is a real good soldier but our team won every single round and if he were attacking mayby his team would have had a chance. Hope I'm not out of line here.
