not a valid windows image, please check against installation diskette.

I looked it up on microsoft.com, and i did all the registry fixes for it, and it still doesnt work. sigh..

Sounds like you need to reformat the HD and do a clean install, you could still have some bad sectors on your HD.

By the way if your hard drive does have bad sectors, its probably a good chance its going to get worse, make sure going forward that you keep backups of everything until you can replace it if necessary.

Yeah if it a bad HD then it will only get worse. Thats why I asked if you had a 2nd HD. I always make sure that I have a backup of Windows on my 2nd HD. Like right now I have 4 HD's and 2 have Win98se and the other 2 have WinXP . . Always good to have when something goes wrong I just change the order of the drives and that gives me the chane to fix things. That and if you have a bad drive you can grab your most important stuff and drop it on the new drive and it's safe untill you fix the other or replace it.

Hd's are a dime a dozen now days 80-100GIG for 60-75 bucks is pretty cheap. Just make sure that you have plenty partitions . I always seperate my OS from the other info on the drive. I like to get 300 GIG drives and split to in 100GIG. Anyways if you reformay Set 1 partiton to 5-10 gigs for your OS and then have a 2nd Partition for the rest of your files. Makes reformatting much easier and less painfull.
