I've got XP pro on my main box, and I'm quite disappointed by it. Maybe bootleg XP wasn't the to go. When I upgrade, I'm going back to 2KPro, I think. 2Kserver is great, and at work I'm a big fan of that. I have an NT4 server, but I don't use that for anything big enough to care how it performs.

My little rant about the way XP was defaulted... I hate the stupid look they have as default, gimme the "windows classic" style... consistency has a beauty all it's own.

I use windows me (came with the computer and my parents won't let me upgrade), but I am using the aston shell, which takes off explorer, so the thing is stable as all hell. I keep my computer going 24/7 without crashes!

I use ME for gaming and most of my applications. I tweaked the settings so I don't have any of the "helping features" running anymore. On my other partition I have 2000 Pro running for some of my more hardware intensive programs, Visual Studio/FrontPage and a Archetecture program that has a 3D walk through feature in it. It runs Aliens vs Predator 2 really well also. Eventually I'll get my HL mods running to the specs I like them and completely switch over to 2000, but I'll never touch WinFP if I can at all avoid it.

Explorer=shell of windows, start menu, desktop(part), folders, systemtray, etc. The accual windows in in win.com and those files. When aston does is load itself instead of explorer for the shell, so explorer isn't constantly running (and crashing!!!!) in the background. It still uses some small parts of explorer (the folders), but for the most part it isn't used.
