Something interesting I just came across that I thought would interest some of you here,

VALVE LOOKING FOR BETA TESTERS

Half-Life developer Valve Software has issued a rather mysterious message saying it is looking for beta testers...

11:22 Don't start thinking about Half-Life 2, Team Fortress 2 or Condition Zero, because it's almost certain that beta testers will be testing patches and updates rather than full-blown games.
Bit of a shame that, but we can't really see Valve letting Joe Bloggs and co. get their hands on beta code of its in-development titles. After all, no one would ever be tempted to put it up on the Net, would they?

Part of the beta test form asks you how many hours a week you spend playing Half-Life: Counter-Strike, so it is quite possible that it will involve testing updates for the terrorist/counter-terrorist MOD.

that's over a year old. any beta testing valve offers is available for simple download from their site.

http://steamsupport.valvesoftware.com another beta is coming out in mid-december.
