I've always liked the stats, most especially the Daily Awards. Lots of people like the competitive nature of the POTW, while others hate the stat whores who do nothing to help their team and are afraid to get fragged for fear of dropping in the stats.

I'd like to see something that takes the best of both worlds. I have a few ideas that may be possible to implement. The idea is to have some form of player of the week, but reward the team player if possible.

First off stat modifiers should be based off of percentage of kills with that weapon the previous week. If more people snipe or AC then that won't be worth as much the next week. Bonuses for taking down SGs and capping should stay. It should be designed so that ANY class could win the POTW although I'm not sure we will ever see a pyro POTW

I'm not sure if we could do Best Of Class or not but that might be interesting. Any other ideas that make it possible to promote and reward team play would be a plus. Maybe we remove the deaths from the equasion since that is usually the biggest complaint against stat whores.

Either way I'd like to see the Daily Awards and possibly have the All Time Daily Awards list of the people that had the highest count for that particular daily award.

That is just my 2 cents...I have never been a stat whore but I do like seeing the stats and there is no denying that the stats brings players to the servers.

Or change the way it was calculated. It really murdered you when someone with a low score killed you. You had guys like Albino Gibbon who had a low score from suicides, but who put up at least a 1:1 ratio all the time. You'd have to go 10:1 against him just to keep from losing points. Good luck with that!

I want my crowbar award back (54 in one day, in actual game play on the old TV1...not screwing around)
I never did get that Super Shotgun award named after me I held it straight for 5 or 6 weeks.

I think stats in any form would be nice. I know It would calm down some people I know.

Like many of the old schoolers, I stayed around at the beginning because of the stats. I stayed for the ragging on stath00rs, and to attempt to get into the top 5 without being a camping freak.

One thing about them if you implement the old school version. Don't give points modifiers for capping. That has no reflection of "skill". You might have picked up the flag and capped it after 7 other people got it there and took down 2 sets of SGs/6 soldiers/HW/demomen...etc, and then you come in and get the "credit" for capping it.

Granted...I don't know how well "liked" I am around here anymore, but I still like to drop in once in a while, and I think it's good that some of us "old schoolers" let the new guys know what it used to be like around here.

The main reason I ever cared for the stats was to look and see
what weapons I was favoring lately. Having the server watch those
numbers for me is fun. The more bizzare daily awards were cool
too. And so was browsing to see who was pwning me the most...

Okay, If the resources are availible for stats, let's have em back.
Having skill points means nothing to me, but what I just mentioned
above hopefully would be part of either system?

That is an interesting idea, would that be on a weekly basis?

Don't bring back the old school!

Regardless of the fact that some don't care about stats, it will change gameplay. I played on another server recently with stats, and I got blown off bags and flags. Snipers were always running away from danger, making spy checking a full time job. Cowards would clump up in groups waiting for someone else to run through pipe traps. A-holes were yelling MY CAP! MY CAP! all the damn time. It was not fun. I didn't stay long.

Please don't let TheVille go the same way!

Think of the Complaint Department now
Think of the Complaint Department on Stats

The new style stats were good. K/D ratios, weapon stats, daily awards. Those weren't bad. You could track your progress without getting crazy about it.

Most of all, fear the DARK SIDE. How many players here have posted versions of "Am I good?" on this forum? They will be drawn to the power of the h00r...

Doesn't matter to me. I only used the stats to keep track of the obscure kills, like crowbar/spanner and caltrop/dispenser.

I want a suicide stat!

I want to know how l337 my suicide ability is! Now, that's the Dr. Kevorkian Award!

Too bad we can't keep track of how many times the doors own people. Man, that would be a stat I would actually look at!

The door owns you all!

Come to think of it, it should just be a case of bringing stats back, or not bothering with them at all. Trying to modify how it works would probably cause more grief than bringing back the old system and leaving it alone.

I voted for the new school on this one. Because I think TFC is a teamplay-oriented game and skill stats based on kills does not reflect actual skill.

If you absolutely have to rank skill, rank it according to the total of health and armor points removed to the enemy.

So a guy who reduces another to 6/0 will get more points than the one that follows and reduces the guy to 0/0 (kills him). Also, killing a full hwguy will give you more points than killing a damaged hwguy or a full scout . I think this will reflect "actual skill" a lot more than the kill ranking, although I don't know if it can be done... (maybe too much processing is needed for that!)

Obviously your actual ranking depends on the method of evaluating it.
In the end, it only means what you intend it to be.
People will cap more if capping counts, kill more with crowbar if it gives bonuses and suicide themselves like crazy for an award... in the end, does it really enhance gameplay?
