I was just wondering. Sometimes when I knife people, I wave my knife constantly while chasing them down. Now, I hear a pretty distinctive noise when I do this (that cutting through the air noise or worse yet, the clanking if it hits a wall of something). Does anyone ever hear these noises and take it as a sign that theres a spy right behind them? I know people have caught me because they heard me priming a grenade, just wanted to know if I had to be similarly careful here. |

Definitly, I hear that noise and know that its a spy, or some crazy engineer, or a crowbar fool. To be safe I always check. Most of the time people dont run around with the crowbar out swinging, so its safe to assume a spy is running around trying to knife someone.
Also I've heard that click before and shot people down. The grenade priming click is pretty loud.

One thing I can add to help a team get rid of nme spies. As a spy our tactic is to disrupt and frustrate the nme. one way of doing this is getting several of the nme to chase me around like fools, which gives my team the numbers advantage to cap. So if a bunch of you are chasing a spy don't necessarily stop and hope that your other teammates will kill the spy, but don't spend to much time chasing that spy. Your are only playing into his/hers hand. I love it on Avanti at CP4 were there is two health packs that I well just run around stabbing like a fool and picking up health while those foolish snipers and engies chase me. Yes I would agree, a soldier is the best unit to protect an engie from spies, just because the rocket will propel us far away and give us damage from the fall. And damn you CycoDad, I would say you are the best at spy checking, but of course maybe I am to obvisous sometimes for your roving eye and Oldman is tricking to, because he actually turns and around every now and then to check is back jack. I have more, but I am not going to embelish my secrets on Warpath hehehe. |

Why thank you Pornstar, I really try to weed out the spies . I pay attention to the little details, like health readout before and after picking up a pack. Doesn't show a change on a spy you know. If I see a class I'm not sure we have I shoot first and Tab second. There are several little things that make me suspicious, and if I'm suspicious I usually take a shot. Plus certain spies have certain habits and I have that info filed away as well. I die from mirror a little more than most but I'd rather that than let a spy past my post.
And a big to all of you who run for packs with 80% health or the rail gun toteing engies that act more like an NME spy than the spies do.
NOTE: I've noticed lately that a spy disguised as a spy can show with the knife as well as the tranq gun since the latest patch. That really confused me for a bit, but now I just file that fact away and assume any "spy" could be a real "spy". |

Actually the still spy is the dangerous spy. you can tell a running spy from your teammates by his speed. This is hard at first but soon they stand out like Frags' scores.
It's the hanging around spy with some other unfamiliar teammates name that is harder to spot. So just throw a rocket as your heading for the "front" and look for mirror. If your real suspicious send two. For some reason they act like deer when you hit them with a light. LOL
Look over your shoulder often especially after rounding a cornor and proceeding across an open area. I don't know where they come from but I often catch them coming up fast. Of course by catching them it could be by their knife plunging in!
Never run by a body without looking back just after you pass, if it gets up kill it.
If your standing around in some group hug facing the enemy be prepared to become TFC soup courtesy of your back slicing spy.
If you have your Gibs turned up you may have seen some fly by your face just before you became little pieces of chopped meat yourself. Moral.. don't group up at choke points hold back until its clear.
Not only will this save your life, you get to kill the spy who is making giblets!
I doubt there is anything new here just another post.

Powers, u remember what I'm like as a spy . I like to fly in in the heat of confusion. I also make very effective use of the walk button and i use stealth over all else. Of course there are times when I just fall from the sky and knife everything in sight (usually Hw's who think they can spot spies hehehe sorry powers but I'm having a field day). Also be aware that good spies, if discovered, already have a grenade primed and their shotty ready. If you are a weaker class I do not suggest chasing down a spy by yourself. |

Only problem with the walk button is as HW you actually go slower than normal, but anyone who doesn't play HW never notices.
The few times I actually play spy (Yes I do ) I like to disguise as enemy HW and use the walk button to just cruise around their fortifications and check everything out to relay to my team, and I like it when my team shoots me while I'm running away from them, makes me look convincingly like a teammate in trouble to the enemy who comes to my aid like a sucker.
I'm not great at spy though, no one says "Hey Lookout Powers could be knifing you he's a spy" in game. Too much inactivity for me, I like the rough and tumble type of nonstop action I get as HW.
And yep Pornstar, I do watch my back alot, since I consider spies my #1 enemy. Sometimes I can almost imagine the look of "Oh Shit" a spy player gets when I turn around to see the guy I just passed has doubled back and was racing right towards me about to drop his disguise and stab me. Some spies actually even hesitate or act erratic for a second when they see me turn to face em, I can smell their fear and that's when they get a load of lead froms yours truely.

All players should remember if they have 100 health and 100 armor leave the pack unless you are a spy in enemy territory. When you grab a pack always dump the extra ammo you are faster and less explosive to emps. That way engineers and other teamates have health and ammo to use. Also spies can feign off the effects of gas grenades if far away enough from the gas.I have been killing alot with gas lately.Learn choke points of the enemy defense especially sniper areas. If you throw gas and hear ug ug ug toss another thats some camper he will like it That annoying spy award is great and it gives your team an area to attack or defend depending on the situation and map.You can also hear a spies knife if you pay attention closely look at my new signature _

Hmm...i never hear the sound of the grenade priming, or the knife cutting through the air. In fact, I never hear anything...I always have to play with the sound off.

This isnt too useful, but if you watch the dead body of someone that was just killed, the body will change class if that person changed classes after he/she died. So, when you kill a spy, if you watch the corpse, it will change skins to his/her disguise when he/she disguises. Not totally positive about this however.
Also, there are two classes that most good spies disguise as. They are good because the default weapon is the most commonly used by that class and because speed is similar to the spies speed. Actually there are three, but not enough people play pyro for it to be a good disguise. I wont say though what classes these are, but you should be able to figure it out. |

dunno if this will help too much, but I like to pay attention to the poeple around me. If i'm sniping next to another sniper, and I see his name in the top corner then I know i'm about to get wacked. unzoom, turn and release....helps a lot for me since other snipers like to crowd me =)
....although a smarter spy might use a grenade =)
also, make sure you inform team of incoming spy as ______ like in well when your camped over enemy base, and see a spy run past change to pyro....if you miss, make sure you tell the team he's on his way. dont be lazy! |
