Cooling tips

I am an avid overclocker. I have a p4 2.0 that is at 2.4 with 4 deg heat gain. I will prob have it close to 2.7 before end of week running stable.

One of the best cooling sys is a PCI exhaust blower. It fits in a pci slot and is powered of off the power supply. Very effective cooler. Cost: At a major chain 20.00. I got mine for 8.00 at a local parts store.

Fans are key. I have the CPU fan heatsink. GPU fan heatsink. 3 case fans. Power supply fan. And 1 pci exhaust blower fan.

This allows me to run intense programs with only a few degree heat gain. It also alows overclocking without a fire hazzard.

does the pci fan use an IRQ? would I be able to put it in in the slot that shares an IRQ with my video card?

I have 6 case fans...plus my gfx fan, psu fan, and heatsink fan.

The pci exhaust blower fan takes no irqs. It simply fills the slot and you plug it into the power supply. Very effective cooler..

Another good cooler is to bore holes in the side of the case and mount case fans there. If you're really serious about venting you might consider a "BlowHole" on the top of your computer. A BlowHole for those who don't know, is a large fan mounter at the top of your case like a blowhole on whales and such. Heat rises and the blowhole sucks it up and blows it right up and away. The trick isn't amount of fans, its the airflow. You want to create good airflow in your computer by balancing the intake and exhaust amounts. More fans inside without good intake is just blowing hot air around. Also heavy duty copper heatsinks are good too. Coolermaster has some nice ones with "heat-pipes" on them, they're $30 a piece so if you've got multiple processors the price can rack up.

Even more impressive a cooling system is the water cooling system. This baby is a waterpump with a radiator much like one on a car. The water is pumped over the processor where it becomes heated. It then carries the water to the coiled radiator where it passes the heat into the radiator. Cool water leaves the radiator and goes to the pump to be pumped back to the processor. Coupled with fans and good airflow you can get your processor running preeety cool, but for a pretty penny.

My suggestion for low cost is a heavy duty heatsink and fan attatched to the processor, and many fans, but not too much you max out your power supply.

They aren't expensive Borg. I got my PCI fan for 15 - 20 buks. Not sure exactly but it wasn't more than 20. Here you go the link and it's 14.95 plus shipping and handling.

My problem on getting a fan of any sort is that I don't have any money right now. I spent what I had saved on getting the video card(Geforce2 MX 400). It is a good card, just needs to be cooled better.

Borg, you can go to the store and buy a mini fan-heatsink combo for your graphics card and mount it on there to cool it. also you can replace the current heatsink on your card since it's probably inferior to one you can buy.

It's not hard at all to install, and they are really cheap, just go looking around computer stores and ask some of the guys in there, I bet alot of them have done it to their computers(Not Best Buy or Comp USA).
