Terrorists in newfoundland

I got this joke in an email today:

Latest news reports advise that a cell of 4 terrorists has been operating in
Newfoundland, Canada.

Police advised earlier today that 3 of the 4 have been detained. The
Newfoundland Provincial Police Commissioner stated that the terrorists Bin
Sleepin, Bin Drinkin and Bin Fightin have been arrested on immigration
issues.

The Police advise further that they can find no one fitting the description
of the fourth cell member, Bin Workin, in the province.

Dont worry, police are confident that anyone who looks like Workin will be
very easy to spot in the community..

Lol, thats like the news report of the 2 seater plane that crashed in a cemetary in Newfoundland, so far they have recovered 84 bodies but they expect that to rise as they dig through the night.

Ok. Let me first state that I am a Newfoundlander. Second, newfies are known for having a sense of humor about themselves.
But please refrain from newfie jokes about terrorism. Call us stupid all you want it's just not funny when it comes to this ongoing situation. I am sorry if i seem sensitive but last night I watched my girlfriend break into tears when she heard about the latest case of anthrax. So I didn't exactly think it was funny when i came to the ville where i try to escape from this stuff (and by the way she really likes watching the game and thinks you are a good bunch of guys here) to see such an ill timed joke.

By the way, if racist jokes aren't allowed at the ville why should newfie jokes be allowed? The difference is negligible.

Well Mr. Pointed Stick I dont have a problem with "Newfies" some of the greatest friends I have are from Newfoundland. We all kid around about me being a Redneck from Alberta and I give them a hard time about anything I can find. Lately its been about that stuff they drink, I think its distilled from gasoline, you may have heard of it, its called Screech. Ghastly stuff, caused all my hair to fall out almost. Please see if someone can send me more

Have you noticed that all ethnic groups are catergorized by a certain type of food? For example, us Hispanics have our beans. Chinese people have their noodles. Blacks have their fried chicken. French people have their wine. And gay people have their croutons.

Again, Im just kidding, I thought it was funny as hell, and I hope you guys do too.

Well for what its worth all those jokes are rehashs with a new Person/place inserted.
As far as the difference between porns and the others, is a sense of good natured ribbing and than the implied topical anger directed at a general group instead of the individuals whose actions prompted this post.

I've calmed down over the last few days and have to admit the joke isn't that offensive to me anymore. It's kind of funny.
But I do wonder how it would be received if "Newfoundland" was replaced with "Harlem" or "Chinatown". Don't like to see double standards although I guess there is nothing I can do about it but give my two cents.
