Educating people is fine, given the fact that the map was just recently added to the rotation. I know that when I started playing it, I didn't have any idea what to do. Heck, I tried to pass the ball off to one of my teammates because I was so intent on keeping the team scoring while I ran for health.
My major problem comes when a sniper sits in his base and snipes anyone moving. Any color. No matter how much the point is explained, they just continue their sniping. At that point, I usually switch over to spy, backstab the sniper, and move on to what I was doing. Lather, Rinse, Repeat as needed.
The map is an absolute blast when it's played right, and I love the map more each time I play it. It's very open and there is mass mayhem getting at the ball sometimes. But when they see the "Ball is in the <XXX> Base", I'd like to see more Team in my Team Fortress.

I think the map would be better if more regulars played it at the same time. Whenever I play it the max number of regs is around 5 or 6 out of twenty (axa can vouch for me here, there are a lot of people who come in to snipe) |

I was doing some "research" the last couple of days and it seems that there are a few other servers that regularly use the murderball map. The problem is they are not under any kind of administrative control and thus they are all death matches. So the people that have played this elsewhere continue to do so in the same manner when visiting theville.
I also noticed that many, many players come to AV#2 simply to play this map when it shows up in the cycle (because many like death matches and are simply here for random frags). After the cyle to avanti they leave, contributing nothing but spam, anarchy and frustration to the regulars.
I think it will be nearly impossible to educate the masses on how theville members play this map and frankly find it to be a daunting task. Perhaps your efforts will be successful and the gameplay may eventually be improved, if only at theville. I have a feeling that the banned list may become rediculously large in the process...
I wish you all the best of luck.

I played this properly for the first time tonight, it's fantastic!!!!
I love it so much.
Ok so some llamas were around, but we (me, JD and Cycodad) dealt with them.
The carnage when the ball returns to centre is amazing!!!!

This almost seems like a great idea for a map, but is missing some method of control. I know I tried to play by the rules the other night, (Once I found out what they were.) but if your team has the ball you just have to kill everyone. But it's not always easy to tell when your team loses the ball, so you don't know when to stop.
But aside from all that, I just want to say I think boycotting is WAAAyyy too harsh a thing to advocate on a server/website that has so much to offer and admins that try so hard to keep things fun and playable. I mean, raise it as an issue on the complaint board. Refuse to play on TV3 yourself even. But to advocate that others not play here, throws the baby out with the bath water. I want to make this a better server to play on, so I will try and get everyone to desert it and ruin it in the process? Okay, I'm sure that's not what you had in mind Dgenr8, but I'm going to a logical conclusion.
Rob and JD and the other admins have always seemed very interested in making changes that regulars here want and ask for. When what you want is not supported by most other players, I think its only fair to drop it. Not that you can't try and convice others to your way of thinking, but I think a boycott is trying to force Rob and JD etc. into something they might feel is against the majority viewpoint of players.
Well, that's just IMHO, and I don't want to make out like I think Dgenr8 is some sort of villain. I know he cares or he wouldn't be trying to do what he thinks makes the Villes better.

Boycott The 'Ville just because one butt-munch doesn't like a map? Get real. Ville 1 & 3 I think don't play Murderball. I usually play just on The 'Ville 1.

Who the f*@# are you HaLcYoN? I personally find your demeanor and charisma lacking in several key areas.
While this post did not receive the support I was hoping for, it was meant mearly to get the point out of one's opinion and see if anyone supported my feelings. Obviosuly no one felt the same way I did... basically they were bitching just to be bitching and not showing any real dedication to thier argument.
Hell, HaLcYoN you may be just the reason for me to get back to playing theville. I always enjoy fragging bitches. I've seen you play on other servers and you aren't all that. You certainly arent a regular on theville since I've never seen you here... so your "I usually play #1" crap is a bunch of BS. You also have no idea of the maps running on all the servers. FYI murderball is on #3 also.
So get off your high horse, pull your head out of your a$$ and bring it. Or do you need some help?

I personally like murderball, now that I've learned how to play it. Some things take time. I know I educated 2 snipers the other night and they stopped doing the Deathmatch thing.
Also, not that cycomom needs any defending, but since her name was mentioned twice in this thread, I would like mention that that was the first time she ever played the map the other night. She downloaded it after asking me if it was worth playing. Unfortunately I didn't have a chance to explain the map concepts, since I was in the middle of a different game with some other friends.
She told me she couldn't understand why everyone was complaining(whining) about getting killed. I think that shows the real problem here. We just need to get more people educated on how this map should be played.
Each time I play the map it gets better, and I understand peoples frustration, but if you don't play it, that is one less person there that knows how to play it right.

Murderball can be one of the best maps on the server when you are playing with the right people. The spies only game last saturday night was a blast because it was all regulars. When Admins are on the server, they keep the llamas in line, but when they are not, I can see the concern. Couldn't you frequently post a message accross the screen telling people to go to theville.org to read the rules of the server. You could post a list of rules like JD did for respawn camping on Avanti. This way llamas would at least get into their minds that some people are trying to play an organized team game. You could also give everybody an initial warning when they enter the game telling them that if they don't follow the rules posted here, they would be banned.
I don't know what exactly you guys are capable of with the servers, but I am sure you could figure something out. Maybe even automatically warn and ban players when they kill players on teams without the ball. I guess this would be a bit extreme though.
Anyway, just a few ideas.
