so i decided to spend a lil bit of moeny on myself considering that in the past 6 months the only thing i've paid for aside from bills and gas has been food and an outfit to go to a wedding. plus having just moved i drive about 3 miles each day to get to work and back, instead of 15+ so i'm saving some gas money even ( which is pretty sweet)
so for a while now at work i've been eyeing up dvd recorders and i'll admit even for working in my wonderful wal-mart electronics department that i was less than informed on the whole dvd technology. hell i don't make commision so if i can't answer a question its a no harm no foul situation. but there was one we got in earlier this year, i'd say probably march
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4529488
now i know that page says online only but my store got about a dozen in back then. only thing was they were $328 and we sold next to none. then they went to 298 and we sold a few... then we got some clearance room and they went to 199 and i thought man... a dvdrw/vcr/dvr now that would be cool. so while i was on vacation apparently they got marked from 199 all the way to $99 which is a lower price than 3 of our regular dvd player/vcr combos. AND i thought they sold out while i was out of the store for a week. But then about 3 days ago my department managers says.. guess what i found over on a riser on the edge of the department.
ta da!
an emerson ewh100f dvdrw/vcr/dvr!!!
so then after waiting 2 days( because i'm paranoid i'll get fired for buying stuff that was "hidden" ) i decided to spend the $99 and get it yesterday. So far so good i guess. I've mostly been using the HDD on it and recording as i watch TV so that i can pause and rewind and all that jazz. haven't recorded a disc yet but i've had it for just about 24 hours now so i'll learn.
jsut wondering... anyone else got one of these things ( not this specefically of course) and how do you like that whole dvd-recording capability? _________________ |

I love that you were paranoid about buying what was found in the store, lol.
Sounds like you grabbed yourself a great deal there Rep. Congrats. If another one comes up, buy it for me k? Just make sure to get doubly paranoid, cuz obviously work will think you're just buying them to resell them personally and make a profit, therefore defrauding the company.
And just know I"m messin with ya, lol. _________________

Man I just bought my second dvd burner for the house. Wish I would have seen that deal. A HD would be nice. I wouldn't have to record on my pc. _________________ <eVa>Bleeding Tomato-III$

the somewhat sad thing about it is... i was trying to sell the thing to customers so i wouldn't have to buy it, because while it was a great deal and i put it on the ole CC ya know 100 bucks can buy a lot of food and gas. and about 30 minutes before i went on lunch to buy it there was one guy that was looking at 2 other models. an apex from 2003 that originally cost $378 and was down to 59, or a cyberhome unit from 2004 that was originally like $298 down to 59. i showed him the one with the hdd in it but he seemed pretty set on getting the old as dirt models _________________ |

Hope you have many happy hours with it!! _________________

thats an awesome dvd recorder but i would recommend not getting the dvd/vcr combo becuz first off u dont get as many format playbacks and also if on of the compnenets breaks down let say the vcr then u have to bring the whole player in and ur out of luck for watching dvds or vice versa, i would suggest getting them seperately! _________________

Been using a Toshiba HDD unit for 4 months that I got from Overstock.com. Wasn't cheap but I had to have that HDD for my "habit".
Record, edit, move, burn. It's all good! _________________ Your suffering will be legendary, even in hell.

Hey ...
Thought I'd post my setup too.
I have a home brewn setup. I built my own HTPC to do the recordings.
Specs:
HTPC:
====
The PC includes 3 tuner cards: 2 x Hauppage PVR 150's and one ATI HDTV Wonder. In total I can record 3 shows at the same time with one being HD.
On the PC I can store up to 250 MB of shows, videos, music etc. etc. The software include : (What Tivo gives plus way more)
- Integrated TV Guide
- Schedule recording
- Automatic commercial skipping
- Auto recompress to DivX / mpeg4
- DVD movies with AC3 / DTS
- Movie, music, photo library
- convert TV, movies etc. to Ipod and other streaming formats
- Provides Internet streaming of any recorded show OR LIVE TV !!
To name but a few.
The best feature is the streaming (live Tv or recorded shows) from anywhere on the internet, I can watch live TV at work !!
AMP / speakers:
==========
AMP is a Yamaha RXV 795A
Speakers are Yamaha.
Center and Mains : 140W RMS
Read : 110W RMS
SUB : 180W RMS
So total we have = 820W RMS (not PMPO)
Needless to say it makes for a big BOOM
HDTV:
====
Mitshubishi 65" rear projection
Here are some pictures:
oXo
General setup:
HTPC and the AMP
Main and sub (11")
Rear speakers (ceiling mounted)
