Well we might be moving to Georgia pretty soon, and we promised our kids (4 and 2 years old) that we would get a dog in the new house.

Anyway I was wondering if you guys have any advise on what kind of dog to get for kids their age?.

It's going to boil down to personal preference, if you have one. Most people probably like the smaller breed dog. Some poodle, beagle, terrier, pug, or mix breed. However, some poeple like Mastifs and Great Dane's Both are great with kids but are huge.

I have a lab, and they are also good with kids if they themsleves are not kids. It takes labs three to four years to calm down and be great with kids.

I also like mix breeds. I think they are sometimes the smartest dog, but sometimes you never know exactly whats in them and how dig they'll get.

Get a mongrel, they tend to be smarter and be more gentle than pure-bred dogs. They also tend to be cheaper (we got ours from the local rescue center it was 40 pounds (currently around $75), including getting her spayed for free! She's the friendliest dog ever with that charming mix of intelligence and pure stupidity that everyone enjoys).

Try this site out it should help you. Me and my dad raised beagles when i was younger, so i tend to like them. But this site should help you out. Also make sure you ask about the medical issue that whatever breed you look at might have. Casue i know cocker spaniels tend to have eye problems. Well hope this helps.

That dog is truly terrifying. Thank you Squidly.

And for Pink Boots, I like smaller dogs. You'll never even find me look twice at something like a Lab.

I've had a Shitzu from the age of 3 - 13 and she was just fantastic. They have tons of energy and are all around cute little dogs. Between my Shitzu and my brothers that he has now, we've had no serious health problems, although they're stomachs get queasy easily, so you cant really feed them much in the line of table scraps. But yeah, i love Shitzu's. Plus they're hypoallergenic, so they're easier on any family member that may have allergies, or any visitors you might have.

Hey, my Shitzu used to even flush Patridge out of the woods for us. Take that hunting dogs!

A while ago we were looking at getting a Wheaten Terrier because They don't shed much, don't bother alergies much, and they're friendly. They're also a decent medium size.
