|
|
So I bought this video card
the video card
for my computer
my computerrr
yesterday. I installed the video card and everything and at first it took more than 5 minutes for my computer to load from the boot to my desktop...
I figured yeah...this isn't normal. So I took out the card plugged it back to my onboard and had no problems. I looked at the HP website to see if I was doing anything wrong. The only thing I did wrong was not go into the BIOS to change the chip set from onboard to PCI. So today I did that, and it took the same amount of time from the reboot to my desktop. Even after I installed the driver for the video card it took longer for my computer to restart I got sick of waiting and uninstalled everything.
I know all about static and the ground strap because I work with applied science. I know I didn't shock the board because the fan on the card was working. Anything else that maybe causing this problem? _________________

Did you uninstall you old graphics drivers and reinstall the new ones? I had a hard time grasping that concept my first time. _________________

I would at least disable (or better, uninstall) the onboard vid, then install the cd from the new card, then turn the rig off, install the card and turn back on. Should be that simple. _________________ =(M)-(M)= Mal n the m00bs - TVC 06 finalists

also u have to be sure that u have securly installed it becuz sometimes it doesnt read if its a bit off and yes disable ur old onbaord becuz that is prolly ur biggest problem...but try jsut installing drivers for ur new vid card and disable the old one then install the new vid card. Also if that doesnt work try a fresh start, clean ur hard drives out and start from scratch! _________________

If it's got an nVIdia card the newer drivers for that are totally messed up. You'll need to revert to 84.xx _________________ I'm Perfect |

Presume its AGP (if so just ensure proper placement and what CR said) - if PCI maybe try different slot, kick your heels together turn around three times and pray to the computer god to help _________________

Not sure if this will help or if your MB even has a jumper for your onboard video. I had an older HP with onboard video when I installed an AGP graphics card I had to disable the onboard video with the jumper on the MB as well as in the bios. _________________

make sure that you did not accidently bump any other cords in the case, aka the hd/cd rom cords. Happened to me and had a LONG boot to realize that it didnt detect one of my drives. It doesnt hurt to check. _________________

thats the problem when you buy a pre built system from dell and others like e-machines. they don't like you upgrading on your own |

I've added new hard drives, new ATI Graphics card and 1GB more RAM all with no probs on my Dell - I think Dell is great (especially for Porn - sure we've all seen that post lol) _________________

I just bought a brand new Dell.
Nice machine. Nicely built.
I have replaced the nVidia 7300 graphics card with an ATI X850 XT Platinum and changed the onboard sound to a X-Fi.
Very upgradable.... _________________
