Whew!
Well whatcha think? It's gonna take some getting used to, for sure.
Smoke gernades for one..
All my fine-tuned skills from DOD 1.3 just went down the toilet. Now I gotta start ALL over again. I got some immediate gut reactions of things I don't like, but I'm gonna keep it to myself, as I know I need to get my system up to snuff. Obviously 2.0G AMD, 1 gig DDR, 6600 GT just don't quite cut the grade with DOD:S.
But, I know that with all the tech-no skills of the rest of you villians, we will get it down to a science.
So, I wanted to be the first on the block to open a dialog for suggestions, hints, fine tuning adjustments that we can all use i order to get the best with what we have.
So, again.. Whatcha think?

My biggest beef so far was lag. Even though my latency was very good (30-55), I would get those annoying spike every 30 seconds or so, that made me look like I'm stuck in a wall or such.
I tried playing with the update rate, from 20 to 100, and with rate, from 1000 to 20000, but I did not get rid of the problem completely.
I will have to tweak this, because otherwise it unplayable _________________ PJ --- ancient IDIOT with a rusty CROWBAR....

Hmmm, well my FPS was low but overall gameplay was just fine for me.
P4 2.4, 1GB ram, Radeon 9600Pro. Nothing exciting HW wise.
I did run at 800 X 600 though, even on my LCD and that kept FPS anywhere between 25 - 60 depending on where I was in the map.
I also tweaked my OS lots and made sure there was nothing else happening while I was playing. Check your startups and registry and make sure you dont have all sorts of crap (or spyware) running while playing, it may be self inflicted lag.

Ran perfectly fine for me - cept I'm running on DX 8.0
1024x768 resolution
Everything high except for Filtering (triliniar), No vertical sync, and no antialiasing. Running on Direct X 8.0 so no HDR for me. Get constant 30-50fps
My computer....
Dell Dimension 8300
~1.5GB RAM
2.66GHz Intel P4 HT
nVidia GeForce FX 5200
If you're having really bad FPS problems go to the Launch options (Right-Click on DoDS > Launch Options) and type in -dxlevel 80. This will set it to run on Direct X 8.0 - meaning no HDR for you but it will run very smooth _________________

got these tips from someone else:
1. Get a better graphics Card
2. If thats not possible lower your resolution to 800*600 (defualt i believe was 1024*something)
3.Reduce the settings in advanced video to medium.
4.If ALL ELSE fails to produce good results do the following:
open notepad and copy the following into it:
cl_phys_props_enable 0
cl_ragdoll_physics_enable 0
cl_show_splashes 0
cl_smooth 0
cl_c4dynamiclight 0
cl_forcepreload 1
cl_ragdoll_collide 0
muzzleflash_light 0
fog_enable 0
fog_enable_water_fog 0
mat_bloom 0
mat_bumpmap 0
mat_clipz 1
mat_fastnobump 1
mat_filterlightmaps 0
mat_filtertextures 0
mat_mipmaptextures 0
mat_specular 0
mat_trilinear 0
mat_antialias 0
mat_vsync 0
r_drawrain 0
r_drawropes 0
r_drawmodeldecals 0
r_rainsimulate 0
r_shadows 0
r_waterdrawreflection 0
r_waterdrawrefraction 0
r_dispenablelod 0
r_fastzreject 0
cl_dynamiccrosshair 1
cl_interpolate 0
cl_interp 0
cl_showfps 0
con_enable 0
mat_show_texture_memory_usage 0
gameui_hide 1
mat_dxlevel 90
cl_phys_props_max 1000
mp_decals 50
r_decals 0
r_dispradius 50
r_dispfullradius 50
r_propsmaxdist 500
r_rainradius 0
r_rainsplashpercentage 0
Then click file->saveas
go down to the bottom where it says save as type and choose "all files"
and name it "userconfig.cfg" and save to your C:->Program Files->Valve->Steam->SteamApps->your user name->day of defeat source->dod->cfg
Do not close this! now erase everything in the text file after saving and type "exec userconfig.cfg"
Now go to file->save as and follow the same instructions above with the exception that you will name this one autoexec.cfg
I hope that helps. It works but remember that since this has just been released the game has bugs in it which would cause problems whetherr or not you use these so do not say that these settings screwed something up. They didn't.
I hope this is informative and helps those of you (like myself) who do not have the newest video cards. _________________

When they get more of the bugs worked out your system should be able to keep up. You might have to kill off a few of the more exotic graphics features (HDR for one) but not all of them.
I run an Athalon64 3500 (2Gb Mem) with dual 6600GT's and it seemed to be keeping up.
What one setting most affects FPS. I was getting 75-90 in spawn but averaging about 40-50 during most play unless the action got really heavy, then it would dip down around 25-30.
Over all it ROCKS (since I suck and it levels the field for me - hehehe). But I do miss doors and I notice there are no "dark corners" to speak of, but you can hide in the grass a whole lot better. _________________

sheesh...now I'm confused........dual 6600's are just "keeping up"?
I've got an AMD64 3500+
6800GT 256MB
1 GB RAM
etc...
etc...
Now I'm worried that it won't play well when I get home today (it's finishing the download still...go fig.) _________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for freedom of thought, which they avoid."

Don't worry Pollux, my dual 6600's keep up just fine (they are not just barely hanging on). All I mean is that so far they don't seem to be pushed to the edge. I think some of my poor FPS performance in heavy play is because I have not made ANY tweeks at all yet.
Besides one 6800 slightly outperforms an equivalent dual 6600 setup. _________________

i just disabled HDR and it runs between 30 and 50 fps on my 9800pro. on 1024*687 resolution, all details/ models and so on on high.
so newer cards should be able to get close to 100fps........ _________________ PROUD TO BE A MEMBER OF =US-V= & VILLE $UPPORTER |

MErf and I did some server side tweaking this morning. You should notice a BIG difference. For instance the server was running at like 60fps now its at 500.
Its going to take time for the server ops and the players to learn all the settings.

Youll be more then fine, I was using my x800 XL last night on TV 1 and asside from the expected server lag, it rocked with all settings on high, I lowered it back down to medium to see how much better that would be, but I was in the menu during a map change and upon the new map start, I was stuck in the menu screen and could not close out or do anything. Upon restarting DoD the server was full, so I called it a night. _________________ Killing is my bidness ladies and BIDNESS IS GOOD!!!! |
