alright... i made a movie for ns, basically just testing this out. but when i turned it into an avi, everything turned blocky.
the first time i saved it, i compressed with whatever the default was, now i tried with what was recommended here, the divxpro 5.04 ... is it that that messed it up? or that I added music?
attempt here -seriously blocky. help <3 _________________

just playing with it to see if i can get it to work, i think i did, try watching this and seeing if it is blocky
how big should each second of movie be? mine is 2.5 mb for 8 seconds of video, so i know it is large, but how much smaller should it be? _________________

if its blocky its probably either crappy software (which shouldnt be a problem if other people can get it to work) or bad settings used when encoding (which is easy to mess up if you are encoding in divx) |

i think it was that, i encoded with XviD and had no problems
now, what is the average size per minute of movie about? and how do you get it that small? because i am thinking that 2 MB for 8 seconds is a bit large.
also, what do you use to encode the audio? i used divx audio, but it was still rather large (1.3MB of the file size) _________________

ive always used mp3 compression, and it was about 8-12% of the whole file size, surprisingly. |

Ok, just did the second one, can find it in bumper cars thread in gen ramb.
but, I was wondering, do you know of any programs that allow you to convert a bunch of bmp files to jpg? the only ones i am finding on google are the ones that only allow you to convert 5 at a time... and i am doing 1200+ frames 5 at a time, taking forever.
also, is it better to encode a mp3 or wav? i have read both versions, and when i try it myself, it doesn't really change much? _________________

Go with MP3. The sound difference is not too noticeable. Wave is the pure sound basically, where MP3 cuts out stuff that can not be really heard, and compresses it _________________ http://www.barbertonrhps.com - The offical Website for Barberton's West Theater Rocky Horror Picture Show in Ohio

Heres a simple rundown.
Program - Videomach (forgot website just google it)
Use Videomach to basically do everything (accept transitions because its not good with them at all)
This program will let you change bmp to jpeg at once (but kinda useless if its going into an avi anyway) and it will let you convert the music to mp3 (which will save you a hell of alot of room)
Ok now for codecs. DivX is an ok codec but very very easy to mess up if you dont know whats what. As for XviD, yes its alot better. But the quality (blockyness) comes at a cost. The better quality, the less blocks, but the more space the movie takes up. Just use trial and error to find what works best for your movie.
Hope this helps, any other questions you can pm me, i used to make HL movies also. So good luck. _________________

yeah i use videomach and xvid
where do you find that in videomach? converting to jpg? do you encode in videomach? or should i use something else?
for this one, i was going to do transition sequences in paint shop pro and add those in.. _________________
