Ok... somthing is seriously wrong. check this out, when ever i reboot my comp, its the regular programs that start up. but Mcafee active shield shuts down. When i go to task manager to kill some programs, it automatically exits task manager. Mcafee keeps exiting every time is start it... and my comp seems pretty slow now... so anyways, before i use to be able to stop the problem by getting rid of the second process of Isass.exe after that mcafee would run ok. But now i cant. oh yeah, so heres my specs

oh yeah, when mcafee would run, it wouldnt find any thing wrong with my comp. So iono what it is.

win 2000 pro/ service pack 4

lsass.exe (the first letter is 'ell') is normal.
issas.exe (the first letter is 'eye') is bad, and needs to be removed using Ad-aware or Spybot
It's not the sort of thing a standard anti-virus program deals with

These are good tips. Maybe you should start in safe mode and see if you can shut it down.

If all you have to do is go into task manager and shut it down, then just remove it from your start up completely.

Go to your start menu, click run, enter msconfig, go to start up, and deselect anything that shouldn't be running.

It could be a virus. I know the sobig variants would disable antivirus software. I would try the online virus scan, or safe mode.

And keep the virus defs up to date

You do have a virus, there are many out there that load via the registry and they will disable your antivirus software as well as stop the taskbar coming up so you cant identify which processes are running and causing the problems.

Roof had a good link, Trendmicros PC Housecall may help but as its already on your machine and being nasty you may need to start in safe mode and then do a housecall to clean up your PC.

Chances are the virus took advantage of a exploit on your machine that was not patched, after you get rid of the virus go to windowsupdate.microsoft.com and download and install and the security patches.
