I just purchased a VL Orion Paintball gun with 200 round hopper 20oz co2 tank and 500 paintballs from Wally world. I was wondering if anybody here who played could give me some future problems im going to run into or any tips. The only one i've found so far is the nearest fill station is 60 miles away. _________________ Over your dead body! |

i used to play at least 2 times a week. i had a smart parts impulse with a dye boomstick and a 48 cubic inch 3000 psi nitrogen tank. overall it cost me about 600 bucks. i loved it but due to money problems i had to stop for a while.
the vl orion isnt a bad gun to start off with. its a nice low end gun. if you clean it after each time you play and make sure its properly oiled you should have no problems with it. just make sure you clean it after each time you play. the fill in paintballs doesnt dry it just gets real thick because the water evaporates out of it. it can cause some nasty problems if let go for too long.
after you get done playing take the bolt out and run some warm water over it for about 15 seconds to rinse the goop off of it. take a squeegee and push it through the body of your gun a couple times. also the hammer should come out once you remove the bolt. if my memory serves me right the orion is an open bolt semi auto blow back gun so make sure you run the hammer under water also. the hammer is the 3 inch long black metal piece that is right below the bolt and is actually attached to it when you take it out. check the o-rings on the bolt and hammer and put a few drops of oil on them before you put it back in your gun. after you do that just put the bolt and hammer assembly back in your gun and you should be good to go concerning your marker.
with the barrel, after you get done playing just rinse it with warm water and put a few drops of oil on a squeegee and then push it through a couple times.
if you do this immediately after you play you should never have a problem. it may take a couple minutes of your time but its worth it if you wanna keep everything working to its full capability. _________________

what Jack said, all good stuff. now some less technical stuff. obvious and otherwise.
if you haven't already and plan to do more than just shoot stuff in your yard, you should buy a good mask and some defogger for it. Pain in the ass when you start getting hot and your mask fogs up and you can't see what you're shooting at.
Be careful what parts of your body you leave exposed if you're playing at a public park...there are some jerks out there that like to aim low(if you know what i mean) just becuase it makes them laugh. Brought a friend with me one time, this happened to him and hes never played since. hEh
and last, not a necessity by any means, but if you plan on playing a lot(weekly) id look into converting to a Nitro tank. They have better velocity & stability than Co2, but are alittle more expensive to setup. If you plan to play alot though, it'll end up being cheaper to have Nitro in the long run. If its just messing around with the gun, then stick with what you got.
finally, for just some general info, gear/gun reviews, park locator and interesting stuff about the sport, check out paintball.com. have fun!! _________________

WOW just got back from a public paintball park yesterday IT WAS GREAT! It was like playing Team Fortress except a we bit more realistic. I was playing with a group of older guys 30-50 that my dad worked with so there were no problems with people shooting to close or extra shots after the person was already hit. I would recommend this to anybody it's great! I played all day from 10:00-4:30 and had a ball or 6 (tee hee hee)
Although Im looking for something to make my gun a little bit more accurate besides balls. _________________ Over your dead body! |

If you can lengthen the barrel of the gun by a couple of centimeters then you'd get more accuracy, I believe. But I dunno if this is possible with a paint ball gun now a days... Back inthe good old days we didnt even use paint balls we used 9mm ... But lengthening the barrle should increase accuracy but it would also decrease velocity, logically. Then again, who needs velocity when you've got accuracy... |

Someone in the group I played with took a picture of all of us but nobody said anthing to him regarding his identity. I recognized him but decided not to ask him anything seeing as if it wasnt him and just his twin he would be annoyed and if it was him he would be annoyed _________________ Over your dead body! |

well a longer barrel does improve accuracy, to a bit. but you have to realize that round objects arent very accurate no matter what you do. hence the reason why we dont use muskets or cannons anymore. they just dont behave well in the air.
a 16 inch barrel is about the best for a good accuracy to velocity ratio.
i played with a 14 inch barrel because it was more manueverable and accuracy wasnt too big a thing. anything longer than 16 will slow your paintballs down. then you run into the problem as you can see the target but you cant hit it cause its too far away or if you do it doesnt break because it has no speed. paintballs are only accurate to about 40 yards. after that gravity takes over big time and even at 40 yards your balls will probably not have enough velocity to hit and break. if you watch tornament paintball youll see the back players shoot their guns at an upward angle to give them distance. after you play alot youll learn the angle you need to shoot at to hit a target. you wont even have to think about it.
i would suggest a 14 to 16 inch barrel to get the best out of it. _________________
